Xiaomi Smart wearables Announcement

It has been months since Xiaomi launched the 46mm Xiaomi Watch S5. There is a 41mm version of the watch too. Note that the S-series runs a proprietary version of HyperOS instead of Wear OS, which means fewer features but longer runtime.

The Xiaomi Watch S5 41mm has a stainless steel body that is slightly thicker than its predecessor, the Xiaomi Watch S4 41mm, at 9.9mm (up from 9.5mm). The upside of this is the sizable increase in battery capacity to 590mAh. That is close to double the 320mAh capacity of the S4 41mm. The battery will last up to 5 days with AOD, up to 8 days of normal use (no AOD) or up to 14 days in power saving mode.

The screen size is the same as before, a 1.32” OLED with 466 x 466px resolution, but the peak brightness has gone up to 3,000 nits. The front glass is Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0. The steel bezel is replaced by ceramic on the Ceramic White version. Like its predecessor, the watch is rated for 5 ATM water resistance. Take a closer peek at the red version - it has transparent lugs, which is pretty cool (the main body is still made of steel).

The watch has an optical heart rate sensor and three temperature sensors for menstrual cycle tracking. Additional sensors include a barometer and a compass. The watch can also detect blood oxygen levels and heart rate variability.

Outdoor positioning is handled via a dual-band receiver with support for GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS. The watch connects to the phone over Bluetooth 5.4 and there’s also NFC and Wi-Fi 6 (ax).

For comparison, the Watch S5 46mm is thicker (11mm), but has a huge (for a watch) 815mAh battery and a larger 1.48” display. If you want Wear OS, check out the Xiaomi Watch 5 (no “S”), which has an even bigger battery (930mAh) and display (1.54”), but it’s thicker (12.3mm) and doesn’t have a 41mm version.

Xiaomi Watch S5 41mm leaks: expect a big increase in battery capacity

The Xiaomi Watch S5 41mm is already available in China - you can find it on Xiaomi's online store for CNY 1,250 for the regular model (that's $190 / €165). Note that the Ceramic White model is slightly more expensive at CNY 1,500, while the special transparent model costs double, CNY 2,500. For comparison, the 46mm model starts at around the same price currently, CNY 1,200 (this is with a small CNY 100 discount). The 41mm model isn't available in Europe yet, but the 46mm model has an MSRP of €180 (and ceramic versions are €20 more).
