It takes 1h to charge from 20 to 80%. I do not play games on it, photography and software are reliable, which are the only features I care about
"Detail is very good, without the watercoloring characteristic of some earlier Night mode efforts" - whaaaaat!? Night cam shots are total ..., even with the Night mode.
lewein, 28 May 2023The battery life is laughableThe web and video screen-on time doesn't seem that bad but it's clearly having some problem with the idle (stand-by) power consumption, dragging the overall score down. It's the complete opposite of Xperia 1 V where it posted mediocre screen-on time but managed to keep the overall score high thanks to excellent stand-by time.
I can get a 256GB Pixel 7 for less per month on contact right now, the 7a is instantly irrelevant.
Txindoki, 28 May 2023Upgraded from a Redmi Note 9s. Been using this 7a since may 15. No regretsBattery standby performance must be quite bad on your phone. Is it ? What's the SOT you're getting and how often you charge your phone
Yikes!!! I was waiting for the review to get the phone but that battery test is holding me back now. Google may lose it's market share if they don't improve on battery backup. It's high time they realise that cameras are not everything in a phone. Apple nailed it, why can't Google? 😕

I still can't get my head around the battery numbers. Smaller screen than 7, same chipset, ram, memory and refresh rate. Not a huge difference on web browsing but video playback is over an hour. I always expected the 90hz to eat into battery life compared with the 6a but it should match the 7. Are the modems chips the same or different?
Anonymous, 27 May 2023It is sharpening.
Since you mention auto 50, that is motorola.
Awful jpeg.
Dng does not... moreIt is sharpening (not as much anymore as on release month) but there is a significant difference in Detail.
You can also take 200MP Photos, those are only giving more detail, but only at bright sunlight, at just daylight, the details aren't going to be better than on 50MP mode, take 3 secs to shoot, but unlike Xiaomi, it doesn't just uoscale the 50MP photo (exept it isn't daylight, then it will instashot but only upscaled 50MP).

Dng does not even need to be edited to be better, just saved as jpeg.
Pixel 7a has Sony IMX787 64mp sensor, it's one of the best sensors out there. It's strange that Google got the best sensor on the smallest and cheapest device in the 7 series
6 cons and, at most, 3 pros but still a 4.3 average? This makes no sense. In fact most of the reviews on GSMARENA tend to average 4.2 per device UNLESS it's a lesser known company. Unfortunate.
With extension of ISP contract I got 7a for 270€ (before reading reviews). However, after few reviews phone will end up at ebay :/ 18W charging and those terrible battery times is a joke. Waiting for Nord 3 probably.
Pixel 7 and 7a both have a similar size battery, 90 hz screen and Tensor 2 chip. How is the 7a battery worse then the 7 when the 7a has a smaller screen.
That battery score is a big letdown. Even 6a did a lot better
Battery life seems beyond terrible. Even 6a does much better but this is a total disappointment
horrible battery life
