The competition

As mentioned already, the Razr 70 is not a cheap device by any means. The official MSRP in Europe is €800, though that appears to be for the higher-storage 8GB/256GB model and not for the base 128GB one, which we have not really seen on sale at all. It is also worth noting that the official Amazon Germany Motorola store seems to already be running a promo down to €740. In the USA, the MSRP is set at $800, again for a 256GB unit.

There is no point in sugarcoating things; that's a pretty penny to pay, and there are plenty of good alternatives. Motorola's own Razr 60/Razr 2025 model is selling for around €565 (8GB/256GB) on Amazon Germany. In the USA, you can get a new one for about $550, and we have seen renewed units going for as little as $240, which is insanely low. And while you are giving up on some things by going for last year's model, it's really not that bad. The display and the chipset are essentially the same.

And if you are comfortable with spending a bit more, last year's Ultra model is definitely now within the €800/$800 budget. It brings a proper flagship chipset to the table and faster charging, to name just a couple of things.

Probably the most obvious competitor to the Razr is Samsung's Z Flip7. You arguably get a lot more phone for your money with this one. This includes things like a more powerful chipset, 12GB of RAM, even in the base 256GB variant and better stereo speakers. And, of course, there is the added allure of Samsung's excellent 7-year software support promise.

Alternatively, you could also save some money and get yourself the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE. It is basically like getting last year's Z Flip6 model, only with the added benefit of an extra year of remaining software support.

Our verdict

The Motorola Razr 70 is an easy phone to like. It retains most of what has made Motorola's clamshell foldables so appealing in recent years - a compact and stylish design, one of the best cover screen implementations in the business, clean Android software with plenty of thoughtful extras, and surprisingly strong battery endurance. The brighter displays, upgraded ultrawide camera and titanium hinge are all welcome additions, even if none of them fundamentally change the experience.

The problem is that the Razr 70 arrives at a price point where buyers expect more. The Dimensity 7450X is perfectly adequate for everyday use, but it is hardly exciting in a device that starts around the €800 mark. The 8GB RAM ceiling also feels restrictive compared to some direct rivals, especially when Motorola itself offers more capable alternatives within striking distance. And while the camera system is generally good and the cover screen remains a standout feature, neither is enough to completely offset the value concerns.

That leaves the Razr 70 in a somewhat awkward position. It is a very competent foldable and arguably one of the most user-friendly clamshells currently available. However, it is difficult to ignore the fact that heavily discounted older Razr models often deliver a remarkably similar experience for substantially less money. Motorola's own lineup may well be the Razr 70's toughest competition.

Motorola Razr 70/Razr 2026 review

When prices inevitably fall over the coming months, as they usually do, the Razr 70 will become a much easier recommendation. Until then, it remains a solid foldable that is held back more by its pricing than by any major flaw in the device itself.

Pros

  • Bright foldable and cover displays.
  • Excellent cover screen experience with broad app support.
  • Great battery life for a clamshell foldable.
  • Clean Android 16 software with useful Moto AI features.
  • Good main camera and excellent selfie capabilities using the cover cameras.
  • Very good display brightness and speaker performance.

Cons

  • Dimensity 7450X performance feels underwhelming for the price.
  • No 512GB storage or 12GB RAM option.
  • Max charging power remains unchanged at 30W.
  • No autofocus on the ultrawide camera.
  • Launch pricing is difficult to justify against direct competitors and discounted predecessors.
