The Mate 10 Pro features a 6" FullView AMOLED display of 1080 x 2160px resolution and with HDR10 support. The resolution is inferior to the Quad HD screens of the Mate 10 and Mate 9 Pro but the 402ppi isn't bad by any means.
Just as expected, the Mate 10 Pro screen uses a Diamond Pentile matrix, the same we've seen on all the recent Galaxies. The Mate 10's LCD screen also used a Pentile matrix, but of the rare RGBW kind.
The screen of the Mate 10 Pro, just like the Mate 10's, has two modes - Normal and Vivid. Those two settings offer different levels of brightness and color accuracy.
Normal allows for 422 nits of maximum brightness and the screen won't go beyond that. The AMOLED's blacks and contrast are top notch. The color accuracy is among the best we've measured with an average deltaE of 1.6 and maximum deviation of 3.
The Vivid mode on the Mate 10 Pro offers 440 nits of maximum brightness but it can do up to 620 nits when exposed to direct sunlight. Vivid was designed to make your screen punchy and thus it saturates the colors a lot. The average deltaE we measured for the screen is 5.1 with a maximum deviation of 7.6, which is by no means over the top.

The sunlight contrast on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro is excellent, but we expected nothing less from an AMOLED screen.

Battery life
The Mates have been admirably consistent with battery capacity, the 4,000mAh pretty much taken for granted by the lineup's fans.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro supports the company's proprietary SuperCharge at 5V and 4.5A. Because of the low voltage, the battery won't heat up as much as other competing solutions. And the bundled cable and charger can still fill a flat battery up to 58% in just 30 mins. The obvious downside is that you need proprietary chargers and cables for that to work.
The Mate 10 Pro offers similar talk and standby times to the Mate 10, but when the screen gets involved the numbers go up. The Mate 10 Pro offers 3 more hours of web browsing and 5 more hours of video playback over the Mate 10's scores. Everything else being the same, the Pro's lower-res AMOLED screen is making the right sort of difference compared to the Mate 10.
Huawei promises 2 full days on a single charge and we were able to get there trouble-free in real life, while having all connectivity options such as location and mobile/wireless data always on. Of course, your own mileage may vary.
Our endurance rating indicates how long a single battery charge will last you if you use the Huawei Mate 10 Pro for an hour each of telephony, web browsing and video playback daily. We've established this usage pattern so our battery results are comparable across devices in the most common day-to-day tasks. The battery testing procedure is described in detail in case you're interested in the nitty-gritties. You can also check out our complete battery test table, where you can see how all of the smartphones we've tested will compare under your own typical use.
Connectivity
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro supports LTE-Advanced with 3-carrier aggregation, Cat.18 LTE for theoretical speeds up to 1.2Gbps of download and 150Mbps of upload, 21 LTE bands, 6 3G bands, and the usual quad-band 2G.
There's a/b/g/n/ac dual-band Wi-Fi support as well as Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot capabilities. You also get Bluetooth v4.2 for connecting peripherals, A-GPS, GLONASS, and Beidou for positioning and NFC for close-range communication. We expected to see Bluetooth 5.0, but we guess that's a feature for the next Kirin.
An IR blaster allows you to remotely control a wide range of home appliances.
There is no analog 3.5mm headphone jack on the Mate 10 Pro, but you get a USB Type-C adapter in the box. Another connectivity feature the Mate 10 pro lacks is FM radio support.
Finally, the Type-C USB port is wired to the USB 3.1 specs and supports DisplayPort v1.2. The latter means you can use a passive USB-C-to-HDMI cable or dongle for TV-out connectivity. EMUI 8 introduced the so-called Projection mode that lets you hook up the phone to an external monitor and get a PC-like experience, so it may be a good idea to buy the right cable.
Once you connect the Mate 10 Pro to an external screen, you will get a dedicated desktop user interface. Then you can either use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, or the phone's screen as a trackpad and an on-screen keyboard. Even though the phone doesn't come with Bluetooth 5.0, you can connect a Bluetooth mouse and a keyboard at the same time. Of course, you can't charge the phone while using Projection. But you can still make calls and send messages without interrupting the desktop view.
