Honor Android Announcement

Honor announced a pair of new midrange phones in China earlier today. The Honor Play 7T and Play 7T Pro are equipped with MediaTek’s Dimensity 6020 chipset and bring 90Hz LCDs, 50MP main cams and Magic UI 6.1 based on Android 12.

Honor Play 7T has a 6.74-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution and waterdrop notch for its 5MP front-facing camera. The Pro version gets a 6.7-inch LTPS LCD with FHD+ resolution and a punch-hole notch for its 8MP selfie camera. The backs on both phone feature 50MP main sensors accompanied by 2MP depth helpers.

Elsewhere, Honor Play 7T brings a 6,000 mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging while 7T Pro gets a smaller 4,000 mAh capacity cell but with 40W charging speeds. Both phones also sport side-mounted fingerprint scanners and headphone jacks.

Honor Play 7T comes in titanium silver, blue and black colors. Pricing starts at CNY 1,099 ($160) for the 8/128GB trim while the 8/256GB model is listed at CNY 1,299 ($189).

Honor Play 7T Pro is available in silver, green and black colors. The base 8/128 GB model is priced at CNY 1,499 ($218) while the 8/256 GB version is CNY 1,699 ($247). Both new Honor Play 7T series phones are already listed on Honor’s online store in China with open sales expected to start on April 6.

It's not surprising to see smartphone brands milking the 'Pro' moniker by giving faster charging or more RAM. I still maintain that only Sony phones truly deserve the 'Pro' moniker because of the professional-grade hardware.

This "pro" version is 30% more expensive for a marginally better camera and faster charging speeds... With 2000mAh less capacity. 7T isn't bad for the price, but the 7T Pro is overpriced garbage.
