Honor Magic V Flip 2 review

The competition

The Honor Magic V Flip 2 is an excellent compact foldable with flagship-grade specs and a near ultimate package. We liked it for its design, screens, performance, battery life, and surprisingly solid camera experience.

There are a lot of Flips out there, though.

The Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 is probably the biggest threat to the Flip 2 in China. It features a more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and if it's cooled more effectively than the Honor's chipset, the Mix Flip 2 appears to be the smarter choice. Its selfie camera may be dated, but its performance potential may easily tip the scales.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 may as well be the ultimate clamshell for its lightweight design, powerful hardware, and superb displays. Its camera performance, however, is not on par with Honor's so .

The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra is also worth considering - it has the Elite chip and arguably the most stylish design on the market. Its camera performance is reliable, and it has an even better battery life. We are also fans of its no-nonsense Android OS skin.

Our verdict

The Honor Magic V Flip 2 has gotten almost everything right - catchy and durable design with impressive protection against the elements, superb screens, powerful hardware, properly good cameras, and reasonably long battery life with fast charging.

Among the noteworthy features of this V Flip 2 are its design, bright screens, and impressive in-sensor zoom on the main camera.

The things we did not like on the V Flip 2 - the lack of Widevine L1 DRM for high-res video streaming, the limited availability, and the overall hardware is not as thin and sleek as the Galaxy Z Flip7, and the design is not as sophisticated as the Motorola Razr's.

If you live in China and you are shopping for a compact foldable - this Honor Magic V Flip 2 should be on your shortlist, most definitely! But if you live elsewhere, we do not think it's worth the hassle of importing it from China, there are equally good alternatives with absurdly long software support.
