New evidence points to the vivo X500 E being a rebranded vivo V80

vivo Android Rumors

Earlier this year, vivo launched the X300 E, which was an upgraded version of the V70 – it had a similar 6.59” display, the same 50+50+8MP camera setup and a nearly identical design. However, the X-series phone had a premium chipset (Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs. Snapdragon 7 Gen 4) and a bigger battery (7,200mAh vs. 6,500mAh).

Now we’ve been seeing rumors about a vivo X500 E. Will that be an upgraded version of the vivo V80? That is starting to look unlikely. First, the Google Play Console slashed our expectations of the chipset, revealing that it is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 – the same chip that is inside the V70 and the V80.

Also, the rumored battery capacity for the X500 E is 7,500mAh – a bit more than the 7,200mAh of the V80, but rumors can be inaccurate. Now there are more clues found on Amazon Italy.

Several third-party cases have appeared that claim that they are compatible with both the vivo X500 E and the vivo V80. That wasn’t the case for the X300 E and the V70 since the X-series phone was thicker (due to its bigger battery). The height and width were the same, though.

Given the similar (possibly identical) battery capacities of the X500 E and the V80, we can imagine them having the same dimensions, so the cases would fit. Identical dimensions don’t mean they have the same internals, though.

We’ve seen several model numbers related to the X500 E (‘V2648’ on the GPC and ‘V2656’ on a Bluetooth SIG certification), so there is still room for doubt. That said, the vivo X500 E being a rebrand of the V80 is looking more and more likely.

The vivo V80 was announced at the start of this month with a base price for India of ₹63,000 for an 8/128GB model. This converts to €590. The V70 launch price was noticeably lower – ₹46,000 for an 8/256GB model.

We’ll keep an eye on things. In the meantime, you can read our vivo V80 hands-on review, which may well turn out to be a vivo X500 E hands-on review too.
