New update today. 13.0.17MR3_NX712J. Android security patch May and misc. software updates. So far, ZTE has handled the updates of the phone brilliantly.

This is my review of the Nubia Z50 Ultra.
After the payment, it took 4 days to ship. To Portugal it took almost 2 months, very long waiting time. It got stuck on customs and I had to pay extra taxes.
The phone arrived very well packed, everything in perfect state.
After passing more than a day configuring it as I wished, I started using the phone to replace my OnePlus 7T Pro. I’ve been using it now for almost 2 weeks so here’s my thoughts.
After installing all the updates, I reset the phone, which made me lose Google Play and Play Services. A quick search on apkmirror and I got it back again.
The screen is just gorgeous, the colors are very nice for an AMOLED, the maximum brightness being 1500nits isn’t honestly that bright, specially on the sunlight, indoors it’s more than enough. The battery life is very good, even better if you turn off 5G.
The build quality is amazing, the phone looks very nice.
The China Rom is ok, almost everything works well. I have had some bad experiences though:
-Hey Google voice search doesn’t work. Google assistant will work only if you open the app, no voice control.
-I logged in my Google account, 3 days later I could not access my Google Photos app and I had to login again for everything to work.
-Google Pay/Wallet worked until yesterday where I was about to pay and all my cards had disappeared. I had to add them all again today.
-No way to create a ZTE account, so no backup option, not possible to download Themes, etc.
-The fingerprint scanner sometimes is ultra quick sometimes I won’t recognize my fingerprint at all so I’ll need to insert the pin code.
-In the settings there’s a part to add custom apps to force Dark Mode on them but nothing appears
-To make this phone work with my galaxy watch was a real nightmare. I was able to do it but Google Pay on watch no longer works.
-The most annoying feature of the software is the floating notification. If you receive a message and immediately expand it, instead of expanding, it opens on a floating window. This is horrible because if it’s for example Whatsapp, the other person will know that you have seen the message.
Apart from these small things, it’s a really good phone. I don’t think I’ll ever buy a China Rom phone again, though. The small things that don’t work are too important to me so it’s better to have an EU ROM where everything works as it should.

Hello. I received my phone and it has not been easy trying to make everything work... Google assistant no way to make "hey Google work", it was almost one full day to make my galaxy watch4 work with this phone. No way to creat a ZTE account....
Well if someone has this phone can you please check on settings>Displa>Dark mode, there's an option called App Custom, where normally it should show up all the apps that don't have dark mode and you'd be able to force the dark mode. Mine doesn't show anything, no apps... Can someone check if it's the same with their phone?
Apart from the hey Google Voice wake-up, Google pay no longer works with the long presso of the power button and some other minor things I'm quite happy with the phone.
The most annoying feature I found and I can't disable is that floating window on notifications. If you receive a notification and you go to the status bar to expand it, it will go into a floating window, opening the conversation and now the other person knows you saw the message. No way to disable this...

Yes its fine, just go with a seller that has a high percentage and sold phones. Just read some reviews on the store first. I got one

The fact that the apps are hidden and half of the things don't work makes me think they sent you an open box and that the phone has been used before one way or another. Do a full system reset.

Why would it not have one. In system apps its on the list as Audio player but its small about 50kb and i cant open it??

run a system restore and reload... moreThanks for the advice. Im new to phone and kinda sorted it. I found they were uninstalled so had to reinstall in system and update. Now i have a problem with the DTS x ultra. When im using with headphones wired or BT it does nothing. Pressing any different headphone brands or changing equaliser makes no difference to sound. Optimised audio dors nothing either, am i missing something.

Think all is ok but when i use the DTS x ultra on headohones, wired or bluetooth or in car the options dont work or change the sound of music in anyway at all. Has anyone got any idea about this. It changes sound when its coming through phone speakers but that all. Thanks
