Update: Apparently, we've misread Xiaomi's message, and the company won't be launching the Redmi Note 2 Prime. Sifting through the comments on an official Xiaomi India Facebook post, we gather the upcoming smartphone will come with a 720p 5.5-inch display, while the Redmi Note 2 Prime packs a FullHD panel.
Other comments give a throwback to the Redmi Note 4G, so Xiaomi might come up with an updated version of that model with a Prime moniker added. We'll just need to wait and see. The original text follows.
Xiaomi is set to launch the Redmi Note 2 Prime on the Indian market. Amazon is teasing the launch with a dedicated poster, but a specific date is yet to be revealed. There's also no word on pricing just yet.
The news of the market launch comes 3 months after the 4.7-inch Redmi 2 Prime was made available in the country, and about a fortnight after Xiaomi unveiled the successor, Redmi Note 3.
The Redmi Note 2 Prime was announced alongside a non-Prime version some three months ago, the difference between the two being CPU clock rate and storage size. Both smartphones feature the Mediatek Helio X10 chipset, but the octa-core processor in the Prime can go as high as 2.2GHz, while the Redmi Note 2 is limited to 2.0GHz. Built-in storage is 32GB and 16GB, respectively.
Other than that, the smartphone packs a 5.5-inch FullHD display, 2GB of RAM and 13MP/5MP camera combo. All of this is powered by a 3,060mAh battery.
You can head over to Amazon and join the mailing list to get notified when the smartphone hits the shelves.
How mean of Xiaomi for for first tempting Indians and then not launching flag end mobiles such as 5s, Note 2 and MIX.
