Xiaomi Android Announcement

Finally, after a truckload of leaks and rumors the Mi Mix 2s is here in all its glory. It comes with a more powerful chipset and much more impressive dual-camera setup, but a design very similar to the Mi Mix 2.

The Mix 2s shaves just a millimeter vertically and horizontally to improve the screen-to-body ratio slightly, but that's hardly a difference you will spot in real life. Then again, the metal frame and ceramic body still look gorgeous.

A 5.99-inch 18:9 FullHD+ IPS panel covers most of the front of the device, complete with a 2.5D curved glass on top. Below it sits a 5MP f/2.0 seflie cam in the corner.

You have to turn the Mi Mix 2s around to spot the most major upgrade over the Mix 2 - a pair of OIS-enabled 12MP cameras, positioned in the top left corner.

One is a regular snapper with large 1.4ɥm pixels and bright f/1.8 aperture (Sony's IMX363), while the other - a telephoto snapper with f/2.4 lens and 1ɥm pixels - Samsung S5K3M3 module. Dual Pixel technology promises quick and accurate autofocus and the Mi Mix 2s also does multi-frame NR, which takes multiple shots and stacks them together to reduce noise.

The other major specs change, over the original Mi Mix 2 is the Snapdragon 845 chipset - Qualcomm's current top-tier offer. It promises tangible performance improvements over the Snapdragon 835, without increasing battery consumption. It should allow Xiaomi's award-winning design to stay relevant and rub shoulders with another wave of flagship competitors.

The software is also refreshed as the Xiaomi Mi Mix runs Android 8.0 with MIUI 9.5 on top. The company has even replaced the Google Assistant with a virtual assistant of its own - XiaoAI, but chances are this will only apply to Chinese users.

Lastly, the Mi Mix 2s now comes with Qi wireless charging support - a world's first on a ceramic device. The company also announced a $16 7.5W Qi wireless charger to make sure everyone can take advantage of that.

Unfortunately, there is still no IP ingress protection rating and no standard 3.5mm audio jack either.

The rest of the specs include a 3,400 mAh battery, with Quick Charge 3 support and plenty of connectivity options - dual SIM support, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and a huge selection of international bands, courtesy of the new X20 LTE modem. There is a Type-C port, but it only covers USB 2.0 specs.

The new Mi Mix 2s comes in a total of three memory configurations: 6GB RAM plus 64GB storage, 6GB plus 128GB and 8GB plus 256GB. Unfortunately, there is no SD card slot available on any of them. Color options will be black and white.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s will start at CNY3,299 ($530). The 6GB+128GB version will be CNY3,599 ($575), while the top 8GB+256GB model will set you back CNY3,999 ($640) and will include a free wireless charger in its retail package. Sales begin April at Mi.com and Mi Home stores.

A notch is just a part of the status bar it's really a complete non-event. Like Huawei, change the status bar to black if the notch offends you and it's gone. Big deal.

worry not, the notch disease will soon be over and by 2019 we will all look back on the notch and laugh.
