After several weeks of teasers, Xiaomi has officially unveiled its latest Redmi series phone - the Redmi Y3 alongside the Redmi 7 in India. The two smartphones are basically identical apart from the selfie department.
The Y3 features a 32MP selfie cam, the highest on any Xiaomi device. The phones also comes with the brand’s new Aurora design language with its subtle curves and dual Gorilla Glass 5 build with a gradient back. Xiaomi is positioning the Y3 as the ultimate selfie machine and is pricing its aggressively to compete in the budget segment.
On the front, both the Y3 and Redmi 7 come with a 6.26 IPS HD+ water drop notch display with a TUV certified blue light filter. For the Y3 the notch features the 32MP front camera which packs AI scene detection, 80-degree field of view and EIS for video stabilization. The Redmi 7 substitutes it with an 8MP front shooter.
The back on both phones features a Gorilla Glass 5 layer and packs a 12MP main camera and 2MP depth sensor. Below the cameras, we have the LED flash and on its right the fingerprint reader.
Xiaomi is boasting its new Aurora design, which features a gradient color combo and shifts its color depending on the lighting.
Inside, both devices are powered by the Snapdragon 632 processor with your choice of 3GB or 4GB RAM alongside 32/64GB storage for the Y3. Storage is expandable up to 512 GB thanks to the 2 + 1 card slot.
The battery on both phones is 4,000mAh and comes with a 10W charger. Both are splash proof thanks to the P2i hydrophobic coating, which a rarity on Xiaomi phones and certainly a step in the right direction. Other extras include a 3.5mm headphone jack (if you can count it as an extra) and IR blaster.

Other extras include a 3.5mm headphone jack (if you can count it as an extra) and IR blaster. No, I count it as an essential. Also why are these splash resistant but the Note 7 and Note 7 Pro weren't? Makes no sense
Why are the phones that I like always have their headphone jacks at the top? I don't care if they copy Samsung and LG for putting it on the bottom of the phone, if it means I get the convenience from it.
