WhatsApp testing in-app browsing and reverse image search features

WhatsApp Android Apps Online services

WhatsApp, like many other companies, tests new features on the beta channel before rolling them out widely to its user base around the globe. And the latest features that this Facebook subsidiary is testing are in-app browser and reverse image search.

As evident from its name, the in-app browser lets you open web pages from within WhatsApp. This way you don't have to leave WhatsApp to open links. However, do note that you cannot take screenshots or record screen when using this feature.

The in-app browser also alerts users when they try to open a web page that could be harmful. And, according to WABetaInfo, those of you who are worried about Facebook or WhatsApp seeing what you are browsing should know that your history is inaccessible to them.

Another feature that WhatsApp is testing is reverse image search. It lets you upload the image you have received in a chat on Google to see if it has ever appeared on the web before. This way you can check whether that image is real or fake. Reverse image search in WhatsApp could turn out to be helpful in countries like India where the platform is widely used to spread false information.

Both these features were spotted on WhatsApp for Android's beta app and are currently unavailable to the users. There's no word on if and when they will be rolled out to all.

I would think that the actual image itself isn't so detailed that we can't "find" them, but "visualize" them in the context of any Image being uploaded.

Few months down, the company will start claiming data bridge. Why demand so much private information when you can't control it?
