Weekly poll results: the Red Magic 9S Pro is a solid choice for gaming and not just that

Weekly poll Red Magic

The 6,500mAh battery on the Red Magic 9S Pro is a hit with a lot of voters who took part in last week’s poll. This is a gaming phone, the exterior decoration leaves little doubt about that, but many think that this could make a solid all-around phone too.

The main concerns were about the software. We’re not sure about the 9S, but for the Red Magic 9 Pro the company says “we do regular updates every 1-2 months for 2+ years with at least 1 Android OS update”. The RM phones are cheaper than your typical flagship, but even mid-rangers get better support than this (often much better).

People aren’t sold on the camera quality either – they join the ranks of those waiting for a detailed review before making up their minds.

We mentioned that the Red Magic 10 series should be about half a year out – the 9S Pro is just a mid-season refresh of the 9 Pro, after all. Still, most people aren’t concerned with that and are willing to get the 9S Pro now instead of waiting for the next generation.

As for the Red Magic 9S Pro+, people are still too concerned about the impact that fast charging has on battery longevity, so the 165W charge rate sounds almost like a negative. Plus, it seems like most would rather have 1,000mAh more in the tank than to have faster charging. The extra RAM and higher storage capacity options are nice, but not vital.

Where the 9S Pro+ stumbles is (predictably) availability. Red Magic has chosen the 9S Pro as its global model, the plus will likely sell only in China. Given the poll results, it was probably the right choice.

If Red Magic starts to offer longer software support for its phones, it could see a serious boost to its popularity. And it could try expanding its footprint as even the 9S Pro isn’t available in enough markets and some would-be buyers are feeling left out.

I own a Red Magic 6S pro ghost edition. The only reason I wouldn't buy another one is the Lack of software support and security updates. Compared to the flag ship phones you basically get little to no software and security updates. What a sham...
