Weekly poll vivo

This week vivo introduced the V40 duo, a pair of mid-rangers that focus on durability and camera features. Okay, the V40 has actually been around for a while now, but it’s launching in India for the first time. The Pro model is all new.

Starting with the vivo V40 Pro, it offers higher performance with a Dimensity 9200+ chipset and faster UFS 3.1 storage. It also features a telephoto camera, a 50MP module with 2x optical zoom.

The vivo V40 misses out on the tele camera and uses a less powerful but still quite fast Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset with UFS 2.2 storage. Both phones use the same wide and ultra wide cameras on the rear and the same selfie modules too.

This means a 50MP main (1/1.56” sensor, OIS) and 50MP ultra wide (119°). On the front, a fairly impressive 50MP module with a wide 21mm lens with autofocus. Both the front and rear cameras can record 4K video at 30fps.

Other things to mention are the curved 6.78” OLED display (1260p+, 120Hz, up to 4,500 nits) and large 5,500mAh batteries with 80W fast charging (wired only). We mentioned durability, so here are the details. This comes from the IP69K rating, which is for resistance against hot water jets (on top of the IP68 rating for immersion under water).

Looking at 8/256GB units, the vivo V40 costs €500/₹40,000 and the vivo V40 Pro is ₹50,000. Details on availability of the V40 Pro in Europe are yet to be announced.

Let’s have a quick look at competitors. The Xiaomi 14 Civi is available in India at ₹40,000 for an 8/256GB phone. This is with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and a flat 6.55” OLED display. This one loves selfies too and comes with a pair of 32MP cameras on the front – one with a wide 26mm lens and one with a 100° ultra wide lens. On the rear, a 50MP main (1/1.55”), 50MP 2x tele and 12MP ultra wide (120°). The relatively small 4,700mAh battery supports 67W wired charging.

The Realme 13 Pro+ is cheaper still at ₹32,000, but that also brings lower performance with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. It has a 6.7” OLED display (lower resolution, FHD+) and a 5,200mAh battery with 80W charging. It has a 32MP selfie camera with a 22mm lens on the front. The rear features a 50MP main (1/1.56”), 50MP tele with a longer 73mm lens (3x) and an 8MP ultra wide (112°).

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro can be had for €530/₹31,000 (8/256GB). It uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, same as the vanilla V40, and has a curved 6.7” OLED display (1220p+). The 50MP main on the rear has a wide f/1.4 aperture (1/1.55” sensor), it’s joined by a 10MP 67mm tele (3x) and a 13MP ultra wide (120°), plus a 50MP selfie camera with a wide 21mm lens. The battery is on the small side with 4,500mAh capacity, but supports fast charging both over USB-C (125W) and wirelessly (50W).

The Honor 200 Pro can be had for €700 in Europe, in India it’s ₹48,000 thanks to a massive Great Freedom Sale (ends this week), this is for a 12/512GB model. It has a curved 6.78” OLED (1224p+) and a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, plus a 5,200mAh battery with 100W wired and 66W wireless charging. The 50MP main uses a large 1/1.3” sensor, there is also a 50MP tele lens (2.5x) and a 12MP ultra wide (112°). There are two modules on the front: a 50MP selfie and a 2MP depth sensor for 3D face detection.

Let’s have a vote about the vivo V40 Pro first. Would you consider it when seeking out your next phone?

Now the vivo V40. Could this be your next phone?

funtouch os is a love-hate relationship in my opinion. the downsides that they lag on 4GB ram devices. the battery optimization is great. the icons looks pretty good though. i rate the OS 7.5 out of 10.

The vivo v40 pro is not that bad for it's price especially if you consider the durability, battery and charging speed, The regular v40 is extremely overpriced in comparison to the xiaomi 14 civi and other mid-rangers
