vivo Android In for review Featured

The vivo X70 Pro+ that was announced earlier last month in China and debuted globally a few days ago has landed at our office for a review. We've received the international model, which is offered in a single Enigma Black color, unlike its Chinese counterpart that comes in Orange and Blue shades as well, flaunting vegan leather backs.

The X70 Pro+ comes in a square-shaped retail box which feels quite premium thanks to the leather-like finish. Inside it is the 55W charger, USB-C cable, USB-C earphones, 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, a protective case, SIM ejector tool, and the usual paperwork.

The X70 Pro+ is built around a 10-bit 6.78" WQHD+ 120Hz LTPO E5 curved AMOLED display that's HDR10+ certified and has a peak brightness of 1,500 nits. It has a punch hole in the center for the 32MP selfie camera and a fingerprint reader underneath for biometric authentication, which we found to be pretty snappy and accurate in the short time we spent with the phone.

The back panel of the Enigma Black X70 Pro+ is built with the new Fluorite AG technology, offering a satin finish. It feels good to touch and adds to the overall experience, which is further complemented by the sturdy build of the device. You can tell the X70 Pro+ is a premium smartphone the moment you hold it.

The X70 Pro+ only has one color option in the global markets because vivo said they adopted a one-color-flagship philosophy for the phone, and since the company is not bringing the leatherback variants outside China, the brand decided to make up for it by bundling a protective case with a leather-like finish.

Enough about the rear panel, let's talk about the big camera island on it that quickly catches attention. The module houses a 50MP primary, 48MP ultrawide, 12MP portrait, and 8MP periscope units. The primary camera comes with OIS and uses the Ultra-Sensing GN1 sensor, while the ultrawide comes with a gimbal, which can be used for photos and videos.

On the right side of the cameras is the Ceramic Cloud Window, which could double up as a self-portrait mirror if you want to get adventurous and capture selfies with the main camera. The smartphone also has vivo's self-developed V1 Imaging Chip on board and comes with ZEISS enhancements, which we'll talk about in detail in our full review along with the handset's other features.

Under the hood, the vivo X70 Pro+ has the Snapdragon 888+ SoC, paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It also comes with the Extended RAM feature, which lets you add up to 4GB of RAM virtually from the internal storage.

The X70 Pro+ runs Android 11-based Funtouch OS 12 out of the box, and vivo has confirmed that global models aren't getting OriginOS any soon. The company also didn't tell us anything about the software support we should expect for the X70 Pro+, but since this is vivo's premium flagship, we hope it will get at least two Android version upgrades.

The Snapdragon 888 Plus-powered smartphone is IP68 dust and water-resistant, features stereo speakers, and packs a 4,500 mAh battery that draws power through a USB-C port at up to 55W. The smartphone also supports 10W reverse wireless charging and 50W wireless charging, but you'll have to buy the compatible wireless charger from vivo separately since it's not a part of the retail package. vivo told us the X70 Pro+ will charge through other third-party wireless chargers, but the charging speeds will vary.

Our vivo X70 Pro+ review is underway, so stick around to see if it's a worthy buy.
