Verizon outs its own Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch, the Wear24

Verizon Android Wear Smart wearables

If you still don't think that wearables are the future, Verizon begs to differ. Hot on the heels of today's announcement of the LG Watch Sport and Watch Style (co-designed with Google) and the official release of Android Wear 2.0, the carrier has decided to do something unprecedented: unveil an own-brand wearable.

It's called Wear24, and what you see below is the only official image that Verizon has shared so far. It will run Android Wear 2.0, and will obviously be exclusive to the carrier nicknamed Big Red. The press release says it "provides constant connectivity with a slim and modern design in mind".

It's very light on any actual details about the watch, however. Clearly it has a round touchscreen, and it will support making calls without your smartphone nearby, because LTE connectivity is built-in. It's water resistant, being able to withstand submersion in up to 1m of water for up to 30 minutes, so the certification will probably be IP67.

It might have a GPS too, since Verizon says its watch faces can change based on your location, but this is just speculation on our part. The Wear24 will become available in March for $299.99 with a new two-year contract. You can add it to an existing plan for $5 per month plus taxes and fees.

Huh! This is the most normal looking smartwatch I've ever seen. Um, it looks just like a normal watch. I guess that's a good thing, right?
