T-Mobile's new T-Mix plans let you pick your own perks

T-Mobile Announcement

T-Mobile has recently been rumored to be preparing new T-Mix branded plans, and today they're finally official. There are three tiers, called Standard, More, and Loaded, and they'll be available in November. The big idea is that instead of coming with a fixed set of benefits, each plan gets a number of "Picks", which you can spend on the perks you actually want.

T-Mix Standard starts at $55/month for one line with one Pick, T-Mix More is $75/month with two Picks, and T-Mix Loaded is $95/month with three Picks. All of those prices are with AutoPay, plus taxes and fees. On Loaded, the first three lines get three Picks each, with a cap of 11 in total. Discounted versions will also be available for 55+ customers, military and veterans, first responders, and college students.

Picks can go toward Apple TV, DashPass, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, and SiriusXM, as well as new partners like Apple Music, ESPN Unlimited, Delta SkyMiles, Google Gemini, Paramount+, Xbox Game Pass, and YouTube Premium. You can also use them on wireless benefits like T-Satellite and the new Optimized Video Calls feature, which uses a network slice to prioritize video calls, or on device promotions, including a new phone. Partner Picks can be swapped four times a year (during three change windows plus an Annual Remix window), while wireless benefits can be changed anytime. Some services may charge you if you switch them outside those windows, though.

As for the rest, Standard comes with 50GB of premium data, 480p video streaming, and unlimited hotspot at 3G speeds. More and Loaded get unlimited premium data and up to 4K video streaming, plus 60GB and 250GB of high-speed hotspot data respectively, after which it drops to 3G speeds.

In Canada and Mexico, Standard gets unlimited 2G data, while More and Loaded get 15GB and 30GB of high-speed data, respectively, then unlimited at 256Kbps. Internationally, Standard only includes unlimited texting in 215+ countries and destinations, while More and Loaded add 5GB and 15GB of high-speed data, respectively, then unlimited at 256Kbps. International calls are $0.50/min on all three.

Allan Samson, T-Mobile's Chief Marketing Officer, calls the traditional approach "one-size-fits-nobody". That's a catchy line, and we'll have to see if swappable perks actually save people money in practice. Either way, T-Mobile says it will keep adding new partners and benefits over time.

US carriers are still probably the only carriers in the world that still treats tethering as a "separate" data than the main data quota. I mean seriously, hotspot at 3G speed? That's like saying you're not allowed to do it at all....
