Montblanc Smart wearables Announcement

The Montblanc Summit 2 is the first smartwatch to use the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset. The watch design is inspired by the 1848 chronograph and comes in a 42mm unisex case.

The Summit 2 features a 1.2” AMOLED display with 390 x 390px resolution (327ppi). It features exclusive watch faces inspired by the 1858 timepieces, but also business, feminine and sporty watch faces.

Even with the new 3100 chipset, the 340mAh battery doesn’t last very long – you’re looking at a full day use in smartwatch mode and an extra 4-5 days in time only mode.

The watch does come with more RAM (1GB) and storage (8GB) than most Wear OS devices.

The Swiss watchmaker used traditional craftsmanship to build the case out of steel or titanium, sapphire glass and a coating of “diamond-like carbon”. Montblanc offers a selection of 11 exchangeable straps (calfskin, steel, rubber and nylon). The watch weighs 62g without a strap and measures 14.3mm thick.

Hardware controls include a rotating crown and two programmable pushers, again borrowed from the 1848 watches.

The back is made of glass, steel and resin and features an optical heart rate sensor and pogo pins for charging. The exclusive Running Coach app uses it to track your fitness level (based on VO2 max) and creates a personalized plan. There’s a GPS to track your runs and 5 ATM waterproofing for swimming.

The Montblanc Summit 2 is also a watch for jet-setters. The Travel Info app will give you the vital details (local currency, typical taxi fares, simple phrases, etc.) and there’s even an app to give you tips for combating jet lag.

Now, Montblanc is a luxury Swiss watchmaker and acquiring a Summit 2 isn’t easy. It starts at $995 for a steel case and goes up to $1,095 for a titanium case. But even if you’re prepared to pay that much, you can’t just click “Buy”. You’ll have to visit a boutique in person and buy one from them.

I have the Galaxy Active2 and like it. The battery life has been amazing. There have been times when it's lasted 3 or 4 days without re-juicing (although it's been on 2 or 3% on the 4th day, but that's still amazing). But just yesterda...
