Tecno Android

Triple-camera setup with one usable camera

The Pova 6 Pro comes with three cameras on board - 108MP main one, 2MP secondary one and another 0.08MP unit. It's unclear why the device needs two depth sensors and it all sounds like a numbers game to us. Even the outdated 8MP ultrawide camera would have brought a bit more value to the table.

Tecno Pova 6 Pro review

  • Wide (main): 108 MP Samsung ISOCELL HM2 f/1.9, 24mm, 1/1.52", 0.7µm, PDAF, 1440p@30fps
  • Depth sensors:: 2MP; 0.8MP
  • Front camera: 32MP Galaxycore QC32E1, f/2.2, 22mm, 1/3.1", 0.7µm; 1080p@30fps

Still, the main camera offers a nice upgrade over the previous generation Pova 5 Pro, which had a 50MP unit.

The selfie camera also receives some love as it's now 32MP, swapping out the older 16MP shooter.

Daylight photos

Main camera

The Pova 6 Pro seems to take more than decent photos during the day. The samples have lively colors, plenty of detail and noise is kept to a minimum, even in more challenging conditions. On the other hand, sharpness and dynamic range could be better. Notice the soft foliage and edges of the buildings, as well as the occasional overexposed highlights.

3x zoom

The 3x zoom mode is surprisingly potent. The Pova 6 Pro punches way above its weight class with this zoom mode. Sure, the 3x zoom samples are a tad softer than the standard 1x zoom ones, but the overall rendition is identical. Maybe Tecno should have added a 2x toggle as well. We believe it would have been the sweet spot.

Low-light photos

Main camera

The low-light photos are rather disappointing. We expected more after going through the daylight samples. There's no Auto Night mode toggle in the settings menu, but there's a prompt notifying you that the software has detected a low-light scene and supposedly acts accordingly.

Either way, the photos are far from good. They are mostly soft, quite noisy, and have clipped highlights. At least the colors are nice and there's plenty of detail all around, even in the shadows.

3x zoom

The 3x zoom shots at night are far from usable. The zoom mode exacerbates all the issues we pointed out in the previous section. The samples are extremely soft and noisy.

Selfies

The selfies are solid, even indoor ones. They are sufficiently sharp, have plenty of detail and provide somewhat natural color reproduction. However, in particularly bright environments, the system tends to overexpose.

Video recording

The handset supports video recording of up to 1440p at 30fps, which is still more than some competitors. However, stabilization isn't available in the highest resolution, so if you want EIS, you'd have to settle for 1080p clips.

As far as quality goes, the Pova 6 Pro surprises with excellent 1440p video quality. The footage looks sharp, detailed, with wide dynamic range and lively colors. It's definitely one of the nicest videos we've seen in this price bracket.

The low-light video, however, isn't as nice. There's a noticeable noise, and it looks a little soft, too. Then again, it's hard to complain about low-light video quality, considering the Pova 6 Pro's price point.

We've included two stabilization videos in the playlist below - one at 1440p without stabilization and one at 1080p with EIS.
