I have a number of mobiles bought because they are 4G and shoot 4K video. We have just had 3G turned off in our area and NONE of the 4G phones now work, including two Sony mobiles including a Z2. I've had to buy a 5G phone. Scandalous.

I still have the phone but don't use it anymore. Sometimes I turn it on, charge the battery for safe storage and play with it a little bit.
Still, even nowadays at 10 years old, it just works. Browser is perfectly usable, YouTube works just as well. Speakers sound good, albeit a bit too quiet after all the usage. I actually purchased the SIM and SD card covers and replaced them. The phone looks much better with the new covers.
You are absolutely right, it's a wonderful phone and served me well, as I'm sure yours had served you.

This phone has more good things than bad but yeah overall it was good and everything has pros and cons. I used it from 2016 to 2020, it worked well in everything but the slightly more battery drain and slightly more heating sometimes were the drawbacks I faced. The standby battery timing while using stamina mode was very good.
If you talk about rear camera, display, speaker quality, water proof feature, processor speed, day to day task handling and software optimisation then this phone was king, did not slow down even after 4.5 years of usage and even being a 6 years old flagship phone in 2020.
It was a bit unlucky for you that you faced more cons than other people in general but overall this phone's experience is somewhat better than your experience in general, just saying in general, not criticising any of your opinion.

Hapschristian , 31 Aug 2022Same with me, Using from 2014! Now, couldn't find batery, but want using them still!!!
This smartphone has shatterproof glass (listed in specs). A few years ago, my mother dropped her phone, and then it cracked on the back glass.
It's been 9 years since it's released. Till this day i still used it as a secondary just to play music and using custom rom i can update it up to android 10, but the battery life and performance just kinda sucks. Remembering it was released on 2014 lol, i type this command using the device it's self :)
Legend Z, 16 Mar 2023Amazing phone was always with me for 8 years! Until today :( I'm sad to say good bye So... morethis phone is truly incredible. I bought this phone for my father in Feb 2015 and he could use it for almost 6 years before it became obsolete. Up until today, even though the phone is very slow and lagging, it could still be able to do basic tasks such as calling.
This is a legendary phone, unfortunately i used it only briefly. The child of the sony Xperia z1. With 3gb of ram and ips disolay unlike it's dad which has a TFT display( which i find good and privacy friendly), this phone is still very useable until this day, i even recommend it over modern budget radiation devices from Xiaomi and other chinese radiation factories. 3gb of ram on the xperia z2, could hold more apps in the background than a galaxy s8 with 4gb of ram or a Xiaomi redmi note 8 pro with 6gh of ram. So ironic
Amazing phone was always with me for 8 years!
Until today :( I'm sad to say good bye Sony.
Sorry but i choose Google Pixel 7 this time.
Main reason behind this decision was better price if compare to Sony Xperia 5 IV.
May be one day I'll buy new Sony phone but only time will tell.
Thank you Sony for amazing mobile phone Xperia Z2 and wonderful time I had with it.

Writing this on a Z2
Bought the phone in 2016 when it was already 2 years old and actively used it until mid 2018. I've had numerous problems with it. The SIM and Micro USB cover had broken around the time I've stopped using it. The battery isn't that great either. I know it's been at the end of its life even in 2018 but my 8 Plus which is the same age Z2 was then fares much better. Also vaguely remember having problems with the microphone. The other side could not hear me. Had to use earbuds with a mic on them to be able to use the phone.
Now the good. As of today, this phone is 8 years old. 8 years! For a smartphone of this class that's a remarkable life span. Moreover the phone is still working rather well to this day. I use it daily to watch videos and listen to music. Overall I have to say I'm quite happy with the decision to purchase this phone a those years ago.
One more thing I'd like to add. I have been keeping some of my old phones. Honestly, the Z2 and the iPhone 8 Plus are the only ones worth mentioning. They still both work fine.
So, I suppose the reason I decided to write this is this. If for whatever reason you might need an older Android phone. This one should be just fine.
Cross 22, 31 Mar 2022Bought a new Z2 a few months ago. Battery failing and phone cuts out on a regular basis. No... morethe phone's 8 years old. its refurbished at best. also battery will die if not used in 8 years
Bought a new Z2 a few months ago. Battery failing and phone cuts out on a regular basis. Not happy.
8 years of uncompromising service!
Had this phone for 4 years and it suddenly volumes up and powers off, trying to power it up again, it vibrates 2 times and shuts off again
OK phone on it’s original Android 4.4 firmware. App performance was good for it’s time. Battery life was OK though six years on, battery now only lasts half a day. Flimsy SIM tray. Since relegated it to a burner device to run privacy hostile apps. Very poor photo quality from Z2 camera compared to say the Samsung s6 - washed out photos and poor dynamic range from the Z2’s camera. Upgrading to Android 6.0.1 killed WiFi performance and reliability - Repeatable issue - Flashing back to Android 4.4 resulted in markedly improved WiFi performance (Sony really dropped the ball on this update and deserve a high amount of admonishment for never fixing this).
User130000, 16 Jul 2021This is by far the worse smartphone I ever bought, the only thing good I could say about it wa... moreTrue I had changed its backglass about 4 or 5 times, the last year I had to make a software for it at least every 2 weeks then I throw it in the locker :)
The first phone I had obtained from 2015 to 2018, you can use it to iron clothes because of the massive heat produced by the SD 801 🔥.
This is by far the worse smartphone I ever bought, the only thing good I could say about it was the software, it was flawless with a simple UI (close to Android One), in terms of hardware it's the worst, had to replace the backglass like 3 times because it just decides to break on its own, and the ports seals started falling on their own, as for performance, it used to overheat a lot, even when doing the most simple tasks.
It still works today after 6 years, but it's in a terrible shape, my Galaxy Note 2 is still in a much better shape, and it's 9 years old! This was the first and last Sony smartphone I'll ever buy.
