I have been using this phone since 2018 till today. I love it very much. SONY always makes the best products in the market compared to all other brands. I love SONY sine I was a kid, it's like a legacy in our family passed on.
Coming back to this phone in 2023, I only noticed the AOSP Open Device program for several Sony phones*. It turns out that Sony rolls out Android 11.0 binaries for this phone. If you think about it, Sony can officially roll out a third OS update to this phone. I don't mind this AOSP program thing since I used to flash custom ROMs, but most average consumers don't do that kind of thing.
Well, been buying Sony Products since HS= I'm 52 now. They always make quality stuff, that's for sure. If you weigh what you get/ compare it to a 1k priced phone, it's a home run. It's the best in class for phones in its price range- no competition. I bought it for the camera, mostly, as I'm not much of a phone guy/ I'm a laptop person. I've had one for about 4+ years now= LOVE IT. The pic's are spectacular, not sure what the 1 person who didn't like them was talking about/ these are as good or better than any camera I've owned by Sony. It's stylish looking, fast- though I don't play games on mine, thin, tough (It's survived numerous drops w/ a normal protector), and with the expansion slot= you can have 128GB's, which leaves me room for my whole music collection AND a healthy amount of vid's. Now, my only complaint on the phone ever- though the vid quality is generally good, sometimes it can be a little meh. But, it's not a camcorder nor do I expect it to replace a more dedicated video recorder. Also, I have an Action Cam and it usually out preforms it. This phone is SO Good, the newer models simply don't match it and are way more expensive. I will keep buying this phone for as long as the batteries still work, eventually they will have to sell them refurbished with new batteries as the 4 year models, brand new, will have some permanent battery depletion just from their age. (It's why I had to buy a new phone, my first (EVO) simply didn't get battery's made for it that held a charge anymore, as I had it for a decade. Oh, I'm not a 'New Phone Every Year' idiot. You buy new electronics when what you have is no longer sufficient or what replaces it so overwhelms it. That's not something that happens every year but more like every decade. LONG LIVE SONY.
I bought this mobile by June 2018 and still i am using it.
Anonymous, 18 Apr 2021Not satisfied with the cam especially it came from Sony.Using this phone till now.. But am disappointed in the camera 📸 especially when it comes from Sony.. We know Sony to be good at camera qualities even at making cameras but this particular one is not good at all for this phone.. I got this phone because of the name I heard.. "ultra". I was thinking it will be a competitor to Samsung ultra.. But this isn't it..
Got this phone March 2018, started "dying" on me end of 2021 because the main camera wouldn't turn on sometimes (We had to scan QR codes when entering a shop and etc. that was made mandatory for COVID-19 tracking and alerts). I bought a new phone end of last year but this phone is still alive but the battery is starting to fail on me (I can feel that it has expanded). Will probably want to invest in a battery replacement just so I can keep it as a spare. It's a really durable but heavy phone. Probably the most lasting phone I've had thus far.
This is my phone until now, Sony is really reliable in terms of durability. Sad I can't find store of Sony here anymore in UAE..

- 4G signal receptions isn't great so I'm always keeping it on 2G/3G mode (4G wastes battery as result of low signal)
- for some reason, NFC doesn't work on my device (never used it before); wanted to try Google Pay, but it doesn't work
- FM radio doesn't work correctly; if there's even little interference, it stops for 5 seconds and then continues; this was reported numerous times to Sony and they never bothered to fix it

My only problem is the GPS, I always lost the signal while driving and makes it difficult to navigate using Waze or Google Map. Camera quality is ok, but I expected more from Sony. The best thing is the durability and battery can last you a whole day.
I have one, and I have constant GPS issues with it loosing GPS signal while I'm driving even outside of a case near the windshield.
My camera app some times hangs, and it will some times hang other apps that request camera access. It feels more like a time-out problem, like the camera has to wake up, it takes a moment but then functionality restores.
I love this phone!
My phone still works fine. Still holds up against new lower-range phones. The only thing that bugs me is the main camera failing to open at times. I have to restart the device at least 2 times before I could use it. Is anyone experiencing this as well? any advice? thanks.
Other than Wi-Fi sometimes disconnecting on non-brand routers and FM radio pausing every few seconds when there's even low interference, phone works great. I've been using it for 4 years and it's still great. Battery could still hold at least a day with moderate use.
I'm really satisfied with this phone and I wish Sony would be better in terms of software support. And actually fix the issues users are reporting to them. Issues with Wi-Fi and FM radio were reported bunch of times and they were aware of them, but they didn't do anything regarding them.
i am satisfied user for 3 years. if you want some decent gaming expirience this is a phone for you. it does not have AR or a good camera but it will do it. the batery and sound is awesome. that phone is unbrekable and it has never crashed for me. i recommend it still in 2022.

I'm still using mine infact I'm tying this on it. Awesome mid ranger this is. Very solid and reliable and it has really aged well. It's on Android 9 right now and it's still kicking very well. I love the speaker quality and the screen is awesome. The pictures are very good in bright light or during the day though not so good at dark. If you want a phone that just does the job of a good phone and don't want to spend much, go for this even in 2021. I doubt if you can find it new though except pre owned or refurbished. Well done Sony.
