But it will often overheat if you use camera for a while or play some heavy game.

This is not a speculation, but is a known fact.

My plan is also using the phone on a daily basis with just doing web browsing, online shopping and watching youtube but even with that it overheats a lot no matter what you're doing. Spotify already makes the cpu temps to 60°C. When it overheats, the screen throttles down to 60 hz and not only would the screen refresh slower, the phone itself would deplete fast and it would lag because the cpu throttling itself. Just get the 5 V. Until we get a custom rom that way better optimization of the 8 Gen 1, it isnt worth it for even anything. I just tried this with android auto earlier and it would start lagging the infotainment screen on my car and the phone itself would legit lag itself. Not recommended get the 5 V.

Hi, should I buy Sony 5 mark 4 as I use for browsing, YouTube, online buying etc. I used xperia 1 mark 3 and loved it. Now using galaxy s20 5g, I also used galaxy s21. Now getting kinda crazy to buying it due to its compact size. Only fear is of its heating issue. Ur suggestions please.

It uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 of Samsung fab which is known for overheating similarly to 888.
8 plus Gen 1 or higher is not of samsung, and don't have overheating issue.
There is some detailed review from geekerwan on youtube.

This phone overheats too much when playing games and trying out games like Zenless Zone Zero would literally make android itself lag and lock up to the point that you could only hard reset it just to get it running again. I don't know how much it overheats on camera since I would only record for like 5 minutes of 4k60 fps footage. But it overheating on games literally makes it thermal throttle and battery depletes fast. Just get the 5V if its only a little bit more pricy. I only got it for $250 so honestly I'm quite fine with it. Battery still lasts quite long even on a heavy day. Much more worth it than budget phones today tho.

You may think it's not a big deal, but temperature in many other places reach higher than 30 C (or sometimes over 40 C), and it's a big deal.

Khavi001, 27 Dec 2024Hi, is it's heating issue resolved with current updates etc or not. There are mixed opini... moreNo, it's clearly hardware issue, the chip is bad.
The manufacturers can only do so far to tweak by software.
This kind of chip need extra cooler such as a fan or big vapor chamber.
That being said, if you are a light user then you won't likely have much issue.
But in case if you stay in hot climate and heavy user, you should avoid it.

But u r living in that part of Europe which is even colder. Here our part of Asia, is even hotter. Recent past, summer, hot wave even caused battery heat warning issues to latest iPhone, Samsung phones as well. So any not heating up in Europe is much effected by it's cold weather.

I have tested it by filming 10+ min in 4k 120hz in summertime sweden. It does get a warning for heating and does get very hot, but no troubles with shutting down or stuff like that.

Thats when recording a video. Other than that i have not felt it get hot and i have had the phone for a year now.

Hey, I saw a Japanese review showing this phone.
This phone apparently gets overheated easily due to Samsung fabricated chip in it.
It was overheating just because it was updating in background and camera shut down within 5 minutes.
For such high price, what a risky device!
