Most reports for Xperias for years have commented on overheating issues, but this one is no where near what they used to be.
Bought mine second hand fairly cheap.
The hardware seems good, great screen, love having a notification LED still, and the 3.5mm headphone jack is so much better than having another device to charge.
BUT.....
The camera pro software only allows selfie shots in basic mode, the camera seems to give a very soft image when using telephoto, and it's only a 12MP sensor compared to the 20MP of my previous (Xperia XZ).
I also have the fingerprint issue, that only arose a few months into ownership. This is clearly software related as it occurred after a time and can be cleared (temporarily) but switching the device off a minute, but means Google pay cannot be used reliably.
In so many terms this feels like a downgrade from the XZ, only offset by the increased processor power and memory.
I've had it for one year, it was a good phone indeed and an excellent camera phone, but glad I've sold it as it seems that they've developed a lot of issues. I see lots of complaints about the green line on the screen and the faulty fingerprint sensor. To begin with, the FP sensor was never working right, It was always buggy. One update improved it, but still unreliable, finally I just disabled it, it was too annoying. I've got a couple of overheating messages but nothing too serious. I miss the camera of this phone, nothing comes close to it in terms of natural photos, so I'm sad that they've ruined telephoto in 5 IV and 5 V series.
An average looking phone.
This has a weird haptic feedback. Instead of vibration of device. Just the frame vibrates.
Wanted to buy a new Sony for $1200. But then I bought a 2 year old 5 III because it was much more handy and had a notification LED. 30 dollars for a new battery and now I have the perfect Android with OS13.
Dude just buy the phone. Those are random vendor's pricing.
I got Xperia 5 III summer 2022. After half a year, i had to send it to service due to faulty screen and fingerprint sensor. 2 weeks ago my screen went faulty again. Previous to that experience, i had Xperia 1 (first edition) and the entire SIM chipset failed 2 weeks after warranty period.
I've given Sony all the chances in the world, but it seems like they don't care about the quality of the products they put out at all. While the audio (and the fact that it's not made in China) was the most important reason for me, it's just not worth having a phone that just randomly decides to die and/or cause trouble for me so often so early. I'm probably going to try a mainstream device next, just because i'm tired of this company's shenanigans.
Get it if you really care about audio, but be warned - quality is not what you'd expect it to be, considering the price point.
Dont understand the pricing. How come the 256 GB model is almost 300 USD cheaper than the 128 GB one?

I have been using Xperia 5 III for 2 years and now its time for me to get another jobb phone but I think I will wait for pixel 8. I don't have a good experiences from using 5 III (overheating and a lot of bugs). I was thinking about xperia 5 V, but they even got rid off zoom camera and now I just don't believe that experience will be much better.
What do you think about waiting for pixel 8?
