Today, Samsung has announced a partnership with Turkish Airlines for using SmartThings Find to locate lost bags for people traveling with the airline.
The two companies have thus launched the Smart Tagged Baggage Service. This lets Turkish Airlines passengers track lost or delayed luggage using Samsung's SmartThings Find, the location-tracking service.
Of course the idea here is that you'd place a Galaxy SmartTag in your luggage. Then, if your luggage is lost or delayed, you can send Turkish Airlines a link with location data in your lost luggage report.
You can also use the Change Device Image feature in SmartThings Find to upload a photo of your actual bag in the SmartThings app, making it easier for your luggage to be identified if misplaced.
SmartThings Find uses Bluetooth Low Energy and ultra-wideband technology to locate Galaxy devices in a network of more than 700 million. Samsung plans to expand collaborations with additional airlines for the Smart Tagged Baggage Service.
The logic is, if TK lost your bag or, even worse, left it at the departure airport, you can use your SmartTag to tell them about it and TK staff will pick it up, load it onto the next plane or DHL truck, and send it to you at your destination hotel, ...
Why do I need Turkish Airlines for that ? I check my phone and I can find my luggage anywhere with a smart tag in it.......
Funny that they partner this with Turkish airlines earlier than even Korean Air and Asiana Airlines
