Just finished reading all the comments here (don't ask why...) and so I just want to leave my 50 cents.
I bought my A40 on the summer of 2019, so hopefully reaching the 5-year mark soon. I see people here both praising or complaining about the A40, personally from my side it's been nearly perfect since day 1. Lighweight (I think one of the reasons why it didn't died yet from any fall) and compact enough, I was amazed when I've learned that I could buy a compact Samsung smartphone with an AMOLED screen, 4GB RAM and 64GB of ROM for 200€, as I always found Samsung phones overpriced. The truth is that as of today the screen is still great, you got a 3.5 mm jack, nice back fingerprint reader, decent photos and sound for the price, and the battery still lasts as it was brand new (to be honest, I take care of the battery as much as I can, I'm almost always near a socket, so trying to keep it always between 40%-80% - when not I try to have my 3000 mAh powerbank fully charged & nearby). Btw, A40's 15w fast charge is also fast enough for its battery size. Of course now I'm stucked on Android 11, but I still get apps updated regularly and working. Regarding the storage, 64GB nowadays is not that much, but I got a 512GB microSD card a couple of years ago, so now all the photos and videos live there, and I have enough free space on the main memory.
The only problems I had so far was that after ~2.5 years I had to change the main camera module as it stopped focusing (actually it happened 2x, but the second was only 1 year after, so it was under warranty, only payed for it once), and I also had to change the screen once (which was pretty fair, as the phone has been mistreated for years and it fell dozens and dozens of times). Using a case and screen protector from day 1 also helped on this. So occasionaly I have to order a pack of screen ptotectors, as they tend to get cracked with so many falls and so inevitably have to change it after some months. More recently it seemed that I'd also have to change the charging port (it stopped charging), but it turned out it was only dust/lint lodged in it - a can of compressed air solved the issue (also valid for the 3.5 jack port).
Other issues I started having after using my A40 for a while was that after some weeks without rebooting/turning it off, the fast charging and the fingerprint sensor stopped working, but it seems it must be some kind of messed up/full RAM problem, because as soon as I reboot the phone, both features start working again.
Finally, if I had to buy a new phone now, I think I would be in deep trouble finding a decent compact model, like the A40. Either I would have to buy a flagship one (Asus Zenfone 10, Samsung S23 or Google Pixel 8 - I would get some features way better of course, but I would also lose the card slot and the 3.5 mm jack, for instance), or I would have to bet on a bigger model: Sony Xperia 10 V is a little taller, although narrower - but then I could maintain the card slot, the 3.5 mm jack, and have 2.5x battery life, as the 5000 mAh battery makes the 10 V an absolute worldwide winner in what concerns battery life (it's 175h vs A40's 73h). I would also win stereo speakers and a IP65/68 rating. Cons: the price is considerably higher than the A40's when it came out - ~350€. But it seems to be the closest to a right choice right now, regarding compact midrangers. In fact, did I mentioned yet that I love my A40?
Alex, 30 May 2022This phone was a budget phone 4 years ago. *At the time of writing, 3 years ago
Great little phone. I have had it since the summer of 2019. I keep as a spare phone now. Some game apps (Tomb Raider 1 and 2) are not supported on my Google Pixel 7 pro so I use it quite often to play them games. The screen is lovely and find it more saturated than my Pixel 7 pro. The cameras are decent as well but obviously not up to Pixel 7 pro level. It's a nice phone to use as well for casual surfing of the web and YouTube.
Good back up phone.

After 4 years of use the charging is failing sometimes, the back cover is unglued and the volume up button is not working anymore. Also the battery life has decreased notably.
Time to switch to a new one. It was an alright phone for its price although a bit slow.

Had it until a week ago, worked perfectly but got an s23
Amazing phone...I have it for years, nothing broke, technology overgrow it but still works better than most new "hi tech" devices...I hope that I will be using it in years to come

Gablood, 17 Mar 2023Battery was alright, but very bad camera and always glitchy/bugsfor real ? i wanna buy it i saw reviews about the phone they said its good they are lying or what ?
had to deal with repeated issues regarding the battery not charging; the fix was to always find something that wasn't metallic to use to clean out the charging port as a bunch of grub happens to build up there, it clears the contacts and my phone works fine despite having it for almost four years now (i was part of the release crowd that bought the phone near launch) - other than the charging issue, it has served me well with a battery health of 86% after four years, although you can't discharge it to beyond 14% without it dropping down by the second and reaching 0%. the camera was good enough for daily photos, although i only recommend the selfie camera if you're not planning on doing anything important and are snapping goofy photos. the 5.9 inch screen was good for the time as i bought the phone at age 14 but now that i'm 18 and i have bigger hands, it's a little cumbersome to use. there are no longer any updates that go to android 12+ so i do not recommend buying this phone unless you're on a tight budget or are buying it as a replacement. overall, it was good for the time, but now i'm in sore need of an upgrade!

Anonymous , 23 Dec 2022And it doesn't matter to you if its bugging? My sister is considering buying a53 and I do... moreThis has literally nothing to do with what Jela said. At no point did they describe their phone bugging, nor does your sister's choice of purchasing an A53 have to do anything with the A40. The only thing here doing any bugging is you, bugging Jela over literally nothing.
