Me, 12 Oct 2022A mobile phone is not an investment, they all lose value. That would be like saying a car or house isn't an investment, if you're spending money on something that will eventually be sold or handed down while being able to effectively get use out of it then it's an investment (unless you got it for free). Considering people are more and more doing school/ uni work or just work from your phone and generally phones becoming integral part of most people's lives now "investing" your money in to the right product matters.

I swear you guys are never happy
Any sentence of yours without "but" in it at some point ?
Geekbench and the likes are just bragging rights, raw numbers not representative of the user experience WHATSOEVER.
Unless you're planning on playing a lot of mobile games, and if you're into that greedy trash then be my guest
Well GUESS WHAT, the Pixel 7/Pro is A LOT MORE than just a camera, it's also a lot smarter than your average smartphone, so whatever you're expecting it to do it will.
Except making you stop complaining, this I'm afraid nothing can.
Anonymous, 12 Oct 2022Why?I did, traded the 6 pro for Oppo Find X5 and instantly preferred it/better in 90% of all situations except main camera quality and speakers, wouldn't ever go back. If I was given a pixel, for free, I'd just sell it and go get something else
looking through the 2x and 3x image comparison you have to say that the images of the NON-PRO show much more details. what a shame

The pixels seem to always binned to 12MP, 2x zoom is based on 3MP crop, quality is much worse than Samsungs with similar 50MP sensors.

As far as I could tell this is NOT true - I have a strong feeling that you're mistaking a distorted bokeh produced by a lens as machine learning artifacts. If you still insist to claim otherwise, give me a link to a sample where iPhone does this.

But for so... moreActually, Google advertised at their presentation that they now use a crop from the 50 megapixel high resolution mode. They even said that the 2x mode would produce stunning results now.......... But yes, the sample images suggest that they still often just use a 3 megapixel crop from the 12 megapixel mode.

This was shown in a YouTube video. For example, it can replace a circle with straight lines in low light conditions. So one can't be sure that the iPhone actually captures the truth.
Esmejo, 12 Oct 2022Looking trough the samples it seems that only the normal pixel 7 is doing debayering work for ... moreIt's very strange. Google advertised the 2x and 10x modes at their presentation. But it seems that the presentation was extremely misleading. The 2x image with the lock seems to use the high resolution mode of the sensor. But in the last 0.5x - 30x example, it looks like they again use a crop from the 12 megapixel mode (at least there seem to be no machine learning artifacts at low zoom levels, which occured since the Pixel 3). I have created a crop from the 1x image (the 0.5x-30x example) and upscaled it. It looks nearly identical, the 2x image only has a slightly better signal to noise ratio per object. So maybe, the algorithm sometimes uses the 50 megapixel mode and sometimes the 12 megapixel mode. It would be interesting whether the 2x and 10x images would be better, when one uses Night Sight.
Somehow I'm not impressed. It didn't even run Geekbench? What else can we expect to be a problem?
On the other hand, photos are impressive, but if I wanted a camera, I'd buy one. I expect more from a phone.
Looking trough the samples it seems that only the normal pixel 7 is doing debayering work for the 2x zoom. All the 2x samples from the picel 7 pro seems like the usual 2x upscaled zoom from pixel 6 pro, what a disappointment!!
Pretty weird, I remember using a modified gcam on my mi 9t pro and the 48mp samples were GREAT, almost as good as the ones from iphone 14 pro.
Why google refuse to put more effort into this?
Krillo, 12 Oct 2022Pixel 7 or Motorola Edge 30 Neo for almost half price?Edge 30 Fusion or maybe the Ultra
"Using a revamped version of the Super Res Zoom feature, the Pixel 7 Pro can produce some remarkable results. 2x and 3x zoom on the main camera produce very usable results."
Not at all. Is this a joke? The sample images. look nearly identical to upscaled crops from the 1x images.
I've already seen 2 reviewers who have said this critter gets pretty hot! you know if there are no bugs it's not pixel, we'll have to give it a few weeks to really know if it's worth it or not
"due to a wider field of view and low native sensor resolution."
It's 12 megapixels like the 12 megapixel Bayer array modes of the main camera. So the resolution isn't lower.
Ok, now I’m confused does the ultra wide on the standard pixel 7 have autofocus or not?Because the Google store itself doesn’t think so:
Pixel 7 Pro = 12 MP ultrawide camera with auto-focus
Pixel 7 = 12 MP ultrawide camera
This article though seems to suggest otherwise 🤷
Anonymous, 12 Oct 2022Better invest more $400-600 on other flagships. Why?
