Xiaomi Poco Android Announcement

The Poco M3 Pro 5G was unveiled half a year ago and it’s replacement is ready to step up on the stage. It’s not a complete redesign but more of a refinement – the new phone takes what made the M3 Pro 5G so good and improves on that.

The display of the Poco M4 Pro 5G is slightly larger, now spanning 6.6” in diagonal (up from 6.5”) while maintaining the 1080p+ resolution (20:9) and 90Hz refresh rate. The touch sampling rate has been improved to 240Hz (up from 180Hz). The display got slightly brighter at 450 nits typical brightness (up from 400 nits) and is still guarded by Gorilla Glass 3.

The rear went back to the full-width camera panel (not a bump – only the area containing the lenses and flash is raised). The main camera switched to a 50MP sensor (up from 48MP 1/2.0”), but the notable change here is the addition of an 8MP ultrawide camera with 119º FoV, which will offer extra flexibility when shooting with the M4 Pro. Also, the resolution of the selfie camera was doubled to 16 MP.

These aren’t camera phones, though, these are instead affordable 5G phones with great battery life. The 5G connectivity is delivered by the Dimensity 810 chipset, a 6nm version of the Dimensity 700 (7nm) that powered the M3 Pro.

As for the second part of the mission statement, the phone is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, same as on the previous generation. The upgrade here is charge speed – with the included 33W adapter (up from 18W), a 0-100% charge can be achieved in 59 minutes. A quick 10 minute top-up is enough for watching nearly 2 and a half hours of video.

This model also includes stereo speakers, which some missed on the M3 version. Don’t worry, the 3.5 mm headphone jack is still on board, as is the microSD expansion slot. NFC is available (region dependent) and the fingerprint reader is built into the Power key on the side.

The Poco M4 Pro 5G will be available globally on 11.11 (singles day). The base version will start at €230, the upgraded 6/128 GB model will be priced €250. Note that there are early bird prices for the base model, €200, and for the 6/128 GB one, €220. The M4 Pro 5G will be available from Poco's own stores, as well as AliExpress, Goboo and Shopee.

Three color options will be available at launch: Power Black, Cool Blue and the trademark Poco Yellow. And if you haven’t caught on by now, yes, it’s a Redmi Note 11 with Poco branding (the M3 Pro 5G was identical to the Redmi 10 5G).
