OnePlus exec teases new version of the Ace 2, likely with Dimensity 9000

OnePlus Android

Earlier this month leakster Digital Chat Staion reported that OnePlus is working on a Dimensity-powered Ace 2 as a more affordable alternative to the OnePlus Ace 2 that uses a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. President of OnePlus China Li Jie has seemingly confirmed that by posting a teaser image with two playing cards.

The new version is supposed to use the Dimensity 9000 chipset. DCS also suggests that OnePlus will swap the 50MP camera (IMX890) with a 64MP sensor (OV64M).

However, there may be more differences, judging by recent certifications issued for a OnePlus PHP110 – presumed to be the Dimensity-based Ace 2 in question. That was only certified with only 80W charging, down from the 100W supported by the Snapdragon model.

This does make sense if this is really a lower cost version. For reference, the Ace 2 with an 8+ Gen 1 chip starts at CNY 2,800. After the first sale of this model, Li Jie called the demand “unprecedented”.

We should get a better idea of when the OnePlus Ace 2 Dimensity Edition will arrive in China as teasers ramp up (assuming Li Jie isn’t just pulling our leg, of course). Will there be a OnePlus 11R Dimensity Edition as well? The similarities between the Ace 2 and 11R are no secret, so it is possible, but we haven’t seen anything concrete yet.

The lack of emulation support is the only thing that keeps me on Snapdragon equipped devices. Otherwise, the new crop of Dimensity chips are superb in terms of price to performance

Deminsity Chipsets are fine but garbage for emulation and especially Nintendo Switch emulation

Probably will be an iterative release to OnePlus Ace Racing Edition, most likely will be called OnePlus Ace 2 Racing Edition.
