In the latest report on the global market in Q3, Omdia's numbers echo Canalys - shipments are better than in Q2 but worse than Q3 2021.

In Q3, the market recorded a modest 2.5% increase over Q2 but a 7.6% decrease year over year.

Samsung retained its top spot with a total of 64.1m units shipped - a 3% improvement over Q2 but a 7.4% dip compared to the same period last year. Apple was in second with 52.2m iPhones shipped - a modest 2.6% improvement on last year. Huawei was the only other maker that didn't suffer a decrease in shipments YoY.

Omdia: Q3 22 better than Q2 but worse than last year, only Apple ships more phones

Chinese makers were hit the hardest. Xiaomi shipped 40.5m phones, an 11.2% decrease over last year. Oppo sold 29.1m units - down 18.9% YoY, while vivo's 25.3m phones represent a decrease of 22.4%. Transsion shipped 15.1m - 21.7% less than in Q3 of 2021. Realme was down by 11.7% over last year.

Honor mostly stayed flat, shipping 14.2m phones to last year's 14.5m.

Omdia's report cites the decline of the Chinese phone market, pandemic-related lockdowns of Chinese cities, the Russia-Ukraine war, political conflict in India, and the general economic downturn as the reasons behind the decrease in shipments. The trend will likely continue in Q4.

Wrong. No one wants a monopoly and a duopoly. There are people out there who can make better mobile OS than both Android and iOS. All they need is stable financial backing and the right marketing tools, that's it.

All Apple phones are more or less same, even if they have different hardware, all Apple phones have same problems which iOS and ecosystem have.
