This week saw the IFA 2022 show take place in Berlin, a key Sony announcement, and the fast-approaching iPhone 14 series debut on September 7.
The Sony Xperia 5 IV is official and it brings a bigger 5,000mAh battery, wireless charging, a brighter display, and a new 2.5x zoom camera in the place of the old 3x-4.4x zooming periscope. The Xperia 5 IV is already on pre-order and shipping later this month, starting at €1,049 in the EU, £949 in the UK, and $999 in the US.
The Galaxy S22 series got a big update with a focus on camera improvement. The HDR performance and color reproduction were improved and you can now use the 3x zoom camera for Hyperlapse mode.
Apple will unveil the iPhone 14 series, the Apple Watch Series 8, and possibly new AirPods Pro next week, and the iPhone 14 rumors are now coming in fast and hot. The new dual-cutout notch on the iPhone 14 Pro's may appear as a single pill-shaped punch-hole with privacy indicators. Meanwhile, Samsung Display will provide 80% of the panels for iPhone 14 series.
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will get new ultrawide cameras, as well as new selfie sensors. Finally, Apple's next iPhone SE may use the iPhone XR design, finally breaking away from the ancient iPhone 7-slash-8 look.
Fans of folding laptops saw two contenders announced in the segment - the 17.3-inch Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED and the 16.3-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022. Both can be used as standalone monitors, tablets, or folded as a laptop, and both will cost an arm and a leg - Lenovo will ask $2,499 for the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 when it begins shipping in November, while Asus' Zenbook 17 Fold OLED will be available in Q4 for €3,999/$3,499.
