The Poco F9 Pro offers near-flagship performance at under £600. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V series chipset – the CPU is the same as on the flagship 8 Elite Gen 5 chip (with 2x 4.61GHz and 6x 3.63GHz Oryon cores), but the GPU has two-thirds the compute units.
The V series compares favorably against the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (non-Elite) as it has higher CPU clock speeds and 12MB of Adreno High Performance Memory (HPM). That’s two-thirds of what the full-fat chip has (18MB), but the non-Elite version has none. That said, Xiaomi needs to fine-tune the throttling algorithm as the behavior we saw during our review wasn’t ideal.
Still, the V series is an impressive chip. Aside from it, the Poco F9 Pro sits in the middle – it’s not too large and it’s not too small with a 6.59” display. This is a great panel with 1,156 x 2,560px resolution, 12-bit colors with Dolby Vision, 185Hz refresh rate, 4,500 nits peak brightness and Gorilla Glass 7i.
Similarly, the battery is large but not huge at 6,330mAh – it does support fast 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. In our tests, plugging in a 100W HyperCharge adapter for 15 minutes was enough to get 41% charge while a full charge took 43 minutes. With an Active Use Score of 19:06h, the F9 Pro essentially matches the endurance of pricier flagships like the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the Poco F8 Ultra from last year.
As for the cameras, they are better than what Poco phones have typically used in the past, but it’s not on the level of the F9 Ultra. What you get is a 200MP 1/1.56” sensor in the main camera with an f/1.7 OIS lens, a 50MP 2.5x/60mm telephoto and an underwhelming 8MP ultra-wide. These are not the best, but they are pretty good for the price class – a Galaxy S26 won’t get you a 200MP main camera. Or a Snapdragon chipset for that matter.
You should consider getting the 512GB model – this doesn’t buy you more RAM (it’s still 12GB), but it’s just £50 more for double the storage.
