I just ordered mine! Did anyone see the video of Bear Grylls taping one of these to the bottom of his boot, screen down, and running with it? When he pulled his boot up to show the camera the phone was still working without a scratch on it!
After having a Casio G'ZOne for three years I've come to appreciate the value of mil spec durability. I'm extremely active and I need a phone that can take a licking and a dunking. The Casio served me well but their latest iteration had reviews so bad I don't even see it on Verizon's website any longer. I just came upon this phone by accident on the very same day they started selling it.
I'm not a crowd follower. I'm an engineer and I like things that are meant to last. I don't need flash, I don't need people to think I'm cool because of my cell phone. I simply want a phone that is durable.
Anyway, it should arrive on Monday morning! I feel like a little kid waiting for Santa!
Will this phone be ever available in India......?
I have been fan of Kyocera Design & its rugged design as it was my first phone (KX 444 & KZ 830) now looking for this one.
Even has better specs than the iPhone 5S hah
I like to see underdog companies doing well
And whoever wrote this article said "it's nothing to write home about".
The person must backtrack and review his statement.
This phone ticks the checkmarks the average user is interested in.
1. Decent specs (1.4GHz quad-core, 2GB RAM, 16GB expandable internal memory, 720p screen, 8MP camera)
2. A good battery (3000mAh battery)
3. Rugged (IP68 certified, Military Standard 810G compliant, Sapphire glass screen)
Someone tell me this phone is nothing to write home about.
Kyocera is making sapphire screen for apple...
Looks like Apple can't have that "worlds first sapphire touchscreen" slogan anymore!
What??????? Kyocera turns apple's claim of next inovation idea to flop. hahaha
AdamBoy64, 31 Jul 2014That's nice and all, but Apple are the ones who are going to make sapphire the next big thing.... moreWell, at least Apple won'r be able to claim to be the first one to release a mass market phone with a sapphire display.
The ruggedness on this thing is quite impressive, if only they'd all make it like this...
This is all because whatever Apple does is made a big deal for no good reason.

Kyocera used to make Contax camera. Contax camera was using sapphire on the viewing screens and ceramic buttons many years ago. Kyocera also makes a lot of ceramic knives. Kyocera has a lot of experience with this type of material. They just need some good design to get them going, they already have the technology.
so when apple releases iphone 6 they will be like "the world's first smartphone with a sapphire touchscreen" lol
Gotta LUV them ANDROIDS.
Apple, you're surrounded.
Resistance is indeed Futile.
Anonymous, 31 Jul 2014You must differentiate between quad-core CPUs. The quad-core supposedly going into this phone ... morei think this phone has good specs. come on its hd, like loads of peoples tv that are 40-60 inch and its still only a 4.5 inch phone. a decent quad core, and very rugged. i've got a note 3 , and while i have to say i'm very happy with it, owned an lg l5 before that and n97 and n81 and siemens feature phones , ..i have ot say the note 3 is great but hasn't actually proved its quad core need. all the games i play are ok, nothing spectacular, and while they load fast, thats about the only benefit from having the latest flagship phone. sure it gets by all the games with great fps but a mid range phone as this kyocera is just as great for web browsing and facebook and also a lot of games and photos.
