Google wants to enter everything and ask you "Do you accept?", when you literally have no other choice in the market. If you want a dumb TV today, you can't get it.
Rooting is not for the common man, and it could still be hackable on the processor management engine level.
One complain: too much ads!
My only complain about google TV is: the timer option isnt present on top notification like settings or input selection.
You set a timer going tru settings > energy > power save > suspension timer.
And thats a lot to set a timer...if they are on top right tru settings icon like Android TV is much much quicker to set one.
Other than that, i like google tv cleaner looking than android tv. (and i have both of systems)
They couldn't have found the better time to ask this, I literally just bought a TCL miniLED TV a few days ago.
My thoughts are that it's a very closed down platform. You cannot change launchers, and as of now, you cannot even use 3rd party screensavers. At least not without doing some adb shell commands first.
They put too much emphasis on movies and so little focus on the user apps you download. Their current layout does not make it easy to quickly navigate through your apps.
Speaking of apps, the app selection is very limited and most of them suck.
Also, NIGHT LIGHT! I don't understand why they couldn't have included one. Not all TVs have an eye comfort mode. Honestly if they added night light I wouldn't complain about anything else.
. back to Roku for now. Google is not Good enough yet.
Why is it so overly complicated to access the Google TV app on your Google TV dongle, Google TV? The links in the top of the screen for movies and series does not show purchased items but instead offers you to buy the same item again...

This company really wants to force people to start rooting and debloating TVs, isn't it
