Incredible performance - that SHOULD'VE occurred withthe M3. Also with only a 100GB/Sec increase in shared memory bus speeds and still ONLY eaching 128GB max RAM in tge M4 Pro Max (recall this debut with the M2 Max) SoC, it would seem Apple is hitting a threshold they cannot break through!
Key Points:
1.its been 2yrs now since their Wxecutive of SoC Jony Srouji has made a launch appearance!
2. This was not a live recording so why is their dweeb presenter of the MBP announcement STILL making the sad mistake between TB4 at the VERY beginning of the presentation when mentioning poets of thr MBP and yet at the end stating TB5?!!
Like HOW could they maje such a nistake fly?!
Laziness in editing. I guess Apple zintelligence wasnt rrady nor ynderstood tge difference if their humans failed at this. Im not being a clown here 40Gb/s (TB4) vs 120Gb/s (TB5) is a HUGE jump and a mistake like this can significantly cause drop in sales.

12MP on a laptop is huge. Most don’t even have 4K but like 1080p instead. As a reminder, 1080p is 2MP and 4K is 8MP.

If you're curious, the M1 was a revolution, the M2 and M3 were mere evolutions.
They're basically a refresh, just like how there is no difference between the A15 Bionic to the A17 Pro chipset, as the architecture stayed relatively same and got slightly beefed up on basically the same 5nm node. But we finally have a new architecture and true-3nm silicon in 2025 with the A16, M4, M4 Pro, M4 Max lineup.
How do they stack up?
M1, M2, M3, M1 Pro, M4
M1 Pro+, M2 Pro, M2 Pro+, M3 Pro, M1 Max,
M3 Pro+, M2 Max, M1 Ultra, M3 Max,

.... it's a substantial leap, especially for the Base M4 Pro variant.
I believe the Qualcomm Elite-X chips (Oryon Cores) performance ranged between below the M1 Max to above the M2 Max. Which is a bit disappointing we didn't get these chips back in 2020 from Nuvia even if it would've just been on TSMC-5nm. Instead we waited 5-Years to pass through that red-tape, and now a stock ARM Cortex-X5 (x925) cores are just as competitive in performance and efficiency. I wrote about this all the way back in 2021/2022 (anandtech) and my warning has come prophesied.

These have actually been good releases for Mac.
I think we can thank Microsoft and Qualcomm for that, with the added competition.
Smart buy is:
- Base iMac
- Mac Mini (M4 Pro + Ethernet)
- MBP 14in (M4 Pro)
Smarter buy is:
- Base Mini (M4)
- Used/Refurbished Macs which are now half-price / much cheaper
...if your needs are different, maybe you should be looking elsewhere (Linux/Windows). I'm not trying to start a flamewar, buying a Mac can be a good idea depending on your specifics.
