As a tattoo artist this feature makes my work much easier. Instead of waiting for the customer tp send me the design and then search for a stencil on Pinterest i can just circle to search and boom,there it is.

Isn't pressing home button and using Google assistant "search screen" the exact same thing as this circle for search?

Exclusivity was entirely artificial because it's entirely done by the "Google" app itself. Vendor only has to add integration gesture where you hold on the gesture bar at the bottom of the screen to summon this feature. Which is a bit annoying if you otherwise prefer not to use anything Google, but you sometimes need this function specifically so you can't have Google app disabled entirely.
