Huawei to unveil tri-fold phone on September 10 Comments

Just for clarity, they will unveil a BI-FOLD phone, not a TRI-FOLD phone. It has TWO folds (hence the BI) not three folds which would be four sections, whereas currently folding phones have a SINGLE fold with 2 sections. Looks cool though. I'd be worried about the exposed section of the folding screen.

Just some fun speculation here but there were rumours of a HiSilicon announcement a few weeks back. It might just be coincidence but the HiSilicon Connect Conference is scheduled to start on the same day as this Huawei presentation. Make of that what you will.

Anonymous, 02 Sep 2024You'll be disappointed if you're trying to figure out where's the third hinge While I agree that 'tri-fold' is a bit weird for a device with just two hinge assemblies, it is nevertheless perfectly correct in current naming schemes. Just take note of the very longstanding 'tryptich' or 'tri-fold' references in the brochure/pamphlet world.
It is exactly the same logic. A piece of paper with three 'panes' and just two real folds is called (and has been for a long time) a 'tri-fold'.
