They should have used 4 x A76 cores or 4x A75 cores and 3xG57 graphics for a budget chipset upgrade.
If Mediatek released a Helio G100 chipset in 2024, then in next year, they will rebrand this CPU as "Helio G100 Ultimate" and "Helio G100 Ultra"
The CPU specs will be the same as the Helio G100, so looks like they're mostly marketing gimmicks
200mp support on a chipset designed for >$250 phones 💀
What they meant by "it's as big of an upgrade as the number suggests" is that it only increased by 1 digit, therefore, it's nothing big/major/noteworthy.
So that's why lots of Helio G99 phones came first from Infinix & TECNO, and other brands made its way. They made lots of effort to optimize these chip like Helio G99 “Ultimate” “Ultra” “Epic” “Infinite” “Master”.
Then it combine these “marketing” names. As a result, it named Helio G100 as a succesor brand, based on Helio G99 platform.
MediaTek is making this trend from specific brands rebranding this chip again. Would be Helio G100 “Ultimate” ... Just another rebrand again.
But what we need for the Helio G99's is lower the SRP under $100, making it profitable. If not satisfied, avoid this.
Just look for the better ones not to be an expensive. Like Dimensity 7030 or D7050, D7300. Or anything else you like. But forget this thing
GSMArena is funny- they say its as big an update as the name suggests.
Well, the name went from 2 digits to 3, but the performance... well,
" added support for 200 MP main cameras." wow.
"elevator mode" wow.
Amazing update and blazing quick update too, only took a few years from G99's launch. (sarcastic in case you didn't get it)

It seems like Helio G series has the price advantage, and as it's used a lot and the manufacturing process matures, MediaTek can keep its prices very low, which is why every popular low cost "performance" phones usually stick with the G99

Mediatek lost another opportunity to bring 4k video recording back to budget phones. 200MP cameras are numbers merly to impress non-tech people.
Next.
MediaTek should have launched an entry level processor with 4xA76 cores on 6nm process and 3xG57
Another low end chip that lacks basic characteristics from 5 years ago. These SoCs are evolving backwards.
Wind14, 08 Aug 2024Poco M5 is $100 in my country. Well Poco M5 is 2 years old so no wonder it is 100 now.
There are lots of phones for 100 bucks that are 2 years old.
Did the part go missing on my post that i said you cant get any new for under 200 ?

Anonymous, 08 Aug 2024Well looks like they make everything right if there is a market for it...I'm not saying they're wrong, I'm saying I'd like them to release new entry-level chips, but that won't happen in the next few years.
