Anonymous, 19 May 2024Useless feature because Apple and Samsung no longer leads the nits race? 6000 nits is craz... moreIt's because it's a scam, not entirely true claim, Oppo claimed higher brightness levels on its latest flagships, in reality it isn't any brighter than Samsung's and Apple's displays, they only manage to match, those two companies gives more realistic brightness levels values on their marketing materials.

6000nits but they don't tell you that this brightness is for 1% of pixels lighted up displaying HDR stuff.

I don't know what has happened to the smartphone manufacturers but smartphones these days are like tabs. We don't want 6.7 or 6.8 inch of display, we just want a 6.1 or 6.2 inch display that's handy and feels nice.

Might be good as dedicated head unit in convertible, maybe finally something that can be visible during the day.

Controls from steering wheel could be done with BT interface.

AnonD-1153580, 19 May 2024Please explain about AV1 support and what does it change and improveAV1 is a video encoder, that is used to play videos encoded using AV1 YouTube uses it and I think Netflix uses it too. All phones can play AV1 videos but those who have the AV1 encoder in their chipset and hardware accelerate it. Which is more efficient and uses less battery.

So when you are watching a AV1 video on a phone that does not support hardware AV1, it will use more battery.

Currently, usually most high end chips has it, the new 8s gen 3 has it but unfortunately the 7+ gen 3 that the Realme phone uses does not have it.

Most midrange phone chipset does not have AV1, so it's not a huge issue that the Realme doesn't have it. But it would have been quite nice if they had used the 8s gen 3 chip, which does have it.

4+5 years update policy on Oppo is acceptable though. Majority of people change their phone every 3 years anyways.

A 6000 nits display is appreciable. The areas of improvement are:

                                  1. under sunlight visiblity of display,
                                  2. a great selfie flash, without a dedicated flash.
                                  3. more research can help develop standards to HDR level contrast under sunlight, you know, to make dark areas in a movie appear clearly, while you hold the device under sunlight.

However, like someone said, 6000 nits is not desperately needed, so I hope auto brightness doesn't go overboard.

brightness doesn't bother me much, i'm not one for burning my eyes, 90+% of the time i have it down under 20%. it's only when in bright sunlight it has a use and i can usually find a bit of shade easily as i don't live in a desert.

Majority of flagship and midrangers nowadays already gives similar performance on it's own pricing. Samsung and Apple already has a strong branding. That's the same reason why their phone sold well even if they don't give too much improvement every year. Even when their phones are not the best in every segment. While Realme? They know they still can't compete with Samsung and Apple even when they're giving their best on anything, let alone leave it "basic" like what Samsung and Apple did. So yes, that's the best that they can do.
