Banking applications also may stop working if your Playstore is no longer updated.

I'll never understand people's obsession with Android OS updates. A phone running android 9 can pretty much do anything an android 14 can. Most of the extra features are down to the phone's custom OS. So basically of all the factors i consider when buying a phone, software updates is the last thing I'd consider.
I've seen cases where phones have got issues resulting from OS updates so usually if my phone is running perfectly I'll never compromise it by downloading a useless update.

How about we compare their age in the smartphone market instead of sales dominance? Tecno has been around almost as long as Xiaomi. Not going international since is their own failure, not that of the customers, so why should the customers suffer it? Ever considered that maybe, just maybe, the reason why they didn't grow faster was partly because of their update policy? Then, there's also the case of ambition.
