It's none other than retailers and a certain niche of tone-deaf storage component manufacturers making excuses, when themselves ask for higher profit margins after so-called "losses" during the oversupply of SSDs and other flash storage solutions. It has nothing to do with the consumer market, as the impact to the end consumer is technically proven negligible by calculations. The retailers are the root cause of this overpricing, not the suppliers.
If Android brands offer 512GB and 1TB storage at 300 Euros or less, it shouldn't be a problem for Apple to ask reasonable prices for their products. A base storage of 128GB in the day of tall-screened 4K videos and inflating app sizes is absolutely unacceptable at any price point outside the low end and entry level market.

And unfortunately storage costs have nearly doubled in 6 months. Software devs need to stop assuming storage is cheap and focus on efficiency more.
