Imagine having no government-issued currency, instead trying to pay using money issued by Apple and Samsung, and worrying which stores will accept Google's money. With UPI, all payments go through a universal system, so all apps are equally viable and there is no vendor lock-in at the supermarket. I can switch today from Google pay to Amazon pay without any change to core functionality.

Azu10157, 23 Feb 2024Thank god we can lock our phones behind a passwordeven better, the phone would be password protected before they'll shut the phone down. i'm not sure if other companies implement this. but this is very beneficial for whose their phones gets stolen and still get tracked through its find my device app.

Google's inability to position Google Pay clearly is what led to its flop. The fact that Google never releases any sort of metrics when it's come to Pay/Wallet is very telling.
In reality, even Samsung Pay is more accepted by banks than Google Pay, especially in Europe. And they're faaaar from Apple Pay.
And it's a shame because in many countries it means that if you don't have an iPhone or Samsung phone, you can't pay with your device unless your bank has a 3rd party solution (that won't work as flawlessly as an integrated solutions).

I was scared for a bit since this app is widely used here in India. It's only for US it seems. This app behaves different in the US, so it makes sense to remove there.
