BudgetPhoneFinder, 20 Feb 2024Phone makers don't have innovations anymore.Yes, but its not because they can't innovate, its because they follow like sheeps Apple non sense. Back in the day in Nokia times, phones had 100x more features than today, why is it ?

Lets take the example of microSD, they all followed Apple like sheeps and now they don't sell anymore they have to quit because of a lot money lost.

The only brand with value remaining is Sony with its Xperia series where you get a LOT of value for your money, irronically it is one of the oldest brand on the market which is a good sign of how good they make their decisions.

[deleted post]And not only, Samsung has too many issues on which people are closing their eyes. Even their "support" is useless because none of the issues were fixed with the updates. I hated S22 Ultra, S21 Ultra failed. Never again.

I bought Xperia 1 V and ALL the issues are gone in the cost of a bit less good zoom lens.
Meizu was cool, I used to like MX3-5 ages ago. I preferred it to Xiaomi. But then it was just gone.

That AI development can be put into Flyme Auto, so it's not all bad news.

Polestar and Nio also launched phones under their car brands which seems to be a trend in China.
The AI talk seems to be hype for investors.

This is a shame. They made good phones and audio equipment in their time. It seems they will become fully integrated in the Geely business from now on and will have no time or resources for the development of consumer electronics.

It just made sense to quit early in a market that is racing towards the bottom. The brand was already sold to Geely years ago. And they don't even have as much notable innovations as Huawei, who is now designing an in-house OS so no American company gets to dictate what they do.

It's really a pitty to see them leaving the game. And more particularly for the reason there is no bette platform to develop strong AI applications than smartphones. Maybe not anymore under Meizu identity, espacially because there have other stronger brands, but even that Meizu was the first chinese brand who had an impact and recognition in west countries with their iPhone like smartphones which were really good. End of an era, again another wrong decision...

The Meizu 16 series were beautiful, but then they sold out by putting holes on the screen like everyone. There was no reason to buy Meizu anymore. The rest is history.

Just when they reached peak design, they quit. This is just sad, one step further to the boring and overpriced fruit and samsung duopoly

Will polestar really keep them alive long term?

The smartphone market is getting dumber by the day ever since android phones followed the iToy in removing features and forcing anti consumer practices. And sony somehow stubbornly wrecking their sales by staying in the pro photography niche instead of adding some competitive options for the mainstream consumer while keeping their features.

So Meizu are following in OG Nokia and LGs footsteps. By which I mean they kept on releasing horribly flawed phones that weren't making them any money, so instead of listening to consumers and making the necessary changes to their phones. They've just completely bailed out. Too much pride and too much cowardice.
