They were removed to promote and increase the sales of wireless headphones. When your phone doesn't have a jack, you actually consider buying wireless headphones which you would never do if your phone came with a jack
Same goes for the removal of the sd slot which was to promote cloud storage. Of course it's a different case with Apple. iPhones never had sd support to begin with and the reason for this is because Apple simply wanted you to buy a new phone. If you ran out of storage, you pay $800 for a new phone instead of $10 for an sd card
In other words, anything that was removed and might be removed in the furure was and will be done because of company greed

In most western countries companies can't make cheap phones because of their own country, currency, wage problem.
In china type countries people can survive with 500 USD per month salary but in US type country people can't survive with 500 USD per month.
Minimum wage rate is high on most USA type countries including regulations and decent judicial system to enforce those rules.
Companies need to pay way more in those USA type country to their employees than china type country.
In china, companies can give even 1000 USD per month as salary to produce phones or something like that.
In USA companies can't, as almost 10 USD PER HOUR is minimum wage in many states.
In india companies are making phones following the same strategy.

It's the same for most brands worldwide, they offload their production lines to 3rd world countries since they can use child labor and pay people pennies per hour there
Anders, 05 Feb 2024How about a law forcing companies to include headphone jacks and microSD support? EU did it wi... moreRight but keep in mind that audio jacks already started dying off when wireless headphones came along, and the usefulness of SD cards in smartphones started to dwindle when storage options hit triple digits. Devices should still come with these features, but to enforce it would be ridiculous when everything in the modern day has evolved to the point that very few people would actually use these features.

Or are you just a little bit envious, obviously you're not living in Europe. Atleast we thinking more on citizens then lawmakers fo outside Europe... Just curious 🤔
Honeymonster, 05 Feb 2024No major electronics brand in EU? if you are referring to mobile phones then you have a point ... morenah not restricted to phones. also something like laptop makers, high-end TV suppliers, consumer digital camera brands etc.
Perhaps the supply chain behind them. I know that EU excels in analog area (NXP, ST, Infineon), but the combined semiconductor market share of EUin the world , including digital, is barely 10%.
Phillips sound like an established but somehow old (or legacy) brand. Nokia is the same case (I don't know whether Finland is in EU though).
Sony established after WWII, Michael Dell is still alive, and many influencial brands just emerged in the last several decades.
Anders, 05 Feb 2024How about a law forcing companies to include headphone jacks and microSD support? EU did it wi... moreI was also an advocate of keeping the 3.5 mm jack on smartphones, but after getting used to using wireless headphones I see that it is no longer necessary. If your wired headphone battery runs out, just use a small “3.5mm to USB” adapter. Since then, I have never used a wired headset on a smartphone again.
Regarding the return of MicroSD, I support this, a lot!
I like the idea of using it as a (encrypted) pendrive, where I leave my music, videos, photos and other files.
But, of course, as long as it is a quality MicroSD, being at least XC C10 A2 U3 V30+
Anders, 05 Feb 2024How about a law forcing companies to include headphone jacks and microSD support? EU did it wi... moreApple would instantly pull out of the EU. Like seriously, they are NOT adding microSD nor the jack.
MRSTEK, 05 Feb 2024If regulation like this is effective as people believed, why the hell there's no major co... moreNo major electronics brand in EU? if you are referring to mobile phones then you have a point but in terms of electronics Philips who are based in the Netherlands are a pretty big company
