Anonymous, 22 Jan 2024You want to know why professional photographers were shooting with iPhones at an Apple event? ... moreYou disproved yourself again. "Professional" by definition, makes money out of their jobs and as dictionary described them as "qualified in a profession". So you're arguing against a brick wall at this point—yourself.

GSMArena's "Posting rules:

• No bashing - deliberately and repeatedly bashing the same brand
• No trolling - deliberately antagonizing other brand/model users
• Read before you post. Search before you post. Your question is probably already answered"

Hope this helps.

This is a #New_Topic then. Okay, I'm bored, so I'll leave a substantial reply:

"you would not be taking photos with a smartphone"

Okay. That's the definition we're going to use from here on out.
As a consumer, I'd use a mirrorless camera then and skip the Huawei because it's not professional enough for you? Any technical basis for that claim?

So this article should be heavily edited, then:
      https://www.lifewire.com/pro-photographers-totally-use-camera-phones-and-here-s-why-5198576

As far as I remembered, I used my Mi 10T Pro 24 months ago and shot an 8k footage for a professional video. Problem is, I have to buy an RTX graphics card just to handle a footage from a smartphone.

Why present my previous comment as if I am telling the world that Pixels are better than Huawei or vice versa?

That's not the topic I am in. Please broaden your point of view.

I am in the topic of professional and technical photography a consumer can get in a Huawei's current phones and mirrorless camera vs auto mode in camera phones. I don't even know your agenda or the point you are raising. Not only that, but I can't respond to something that I am not aware of.

Topics you raised which is none of my business:
          • MKBHD blind tests are rubbish, pointless
          • Huawei phones won blind tests in the past
          • Pixel phones won recent blind tests, but invalid because tests were meant as "jokes"

          My topics:
          • skip post-processing and save time: get a Pixel phone
          • learn technical aspects of photography such as the ISO, focal lengths, aperture, shutter speed
          • get a mirrorless camera or Huawei with variable aperture and take advantage of the budget you have
          • get an appropriate phone for your needs

Maybe if you want to discuss pixels in a Huawei thread, you should be starting a new thread or post in a pixel thread instead. I was not the person who raised blind tests or pixels in this thread.

Based on sample photos coming from the P60, as a consumer, I really, really want this phone. I'm sure the variable aperture would mean so much to me in practical use cases in my day-to-day life: taking snaps of flowers, groceries, and photos of pets with a creamy bokeh in the background.

With an f1.4 aperture, I can boost my shutter speed without increasing ISO for a cleaner image output of kids running around indoors in low-light situations.

As a consumer, I shoot auto mode and I am not into deep tinkering around PRO mode, RAW formats, or care about the highest image quality that DxO defines or use phones under professional environment.

I want convenience and "smart" software cameras, and only Pixels can satisfy my narrow requirements with features[1] like:

Pro controls, High-resolution photography, Best Take, Audio Magic Eraser, Video Boost, Night Sight Video, Photo Unblur, Macro Focus, Night Sight, Top Shot, Portrait Mode, Super Res Zoom, Motion autofocus, Live HDR+, Frequent Faces, Dual exposure controls, Cinematic Pan, Portrait Light, Magic Eraser, Motion Mode, Real Tone, Face Unblur, Panorama, Manual white balancing, Locked Folder, Magic Editor, Ultra HDR, Astrophotography

They were not meant to be taken seriously. He said so himself. I do not know why you are taking them seriously. Blind tests do not reflect photo quality, rather that the images appear more pleasing to viewers.

You misunderstood me. Huawei phones were in the blind tests before the ban and won once or twice. Afterwards, being the American centric reviewer he was, Huawei phones no longer appeared on his channel. It would not be surprising if Huawei phones kept winning the blind tests if they took part. But again, blind tests should not be taken seriously.

Vin Aigre, 21 Jan 2024Understood. But a Pixel phone is really the worst choice I could choose. That's not the argument I have posted earlier. In fact, it's far from what I said. You're making a straw man move.

"Knowing all that, get an appropriate phone." (excerpt from original)
Rephrased: Get anything that suits your photography needs, whether it's a Huawei phone with variable aperture or mirrorless, or a phone that simplifies photography, whatever that is.

I only used the Pixels as an example, since they're most likely to deliver visually appealing photos that require minimal effort, and as blind tests support that claim. "Knowing all that, get an appropriate phone."

Key points from my previous statements:
                          • technical photography vs auto mode
                          • options from same price bracket: a mirrorless camera and a Huawei P60 or P70
                          • technical side of photography options: phones with variable aperture: Huawei Mate 50 series, P series
                          • simplified options, low learning curve: Pixel phones based on blind tests[1][2]
                          • people's choice based on blind tests: subjectively pleasing photos came from the Pixels 6a. 7a, Pixel 8, and Pixel Fold[1][2]

Yes, I meant, for the same cost, one can get something from Huawei's recent Mate or P series or a mirrorless if they are into the technical side of photography (quite a narrow consumer category as majority of phone users still relies on "auto mode", even mirrorless users 🤭)

Or skip the technical side by using a phone that does the post-processing for you and get appealing photos or any phone that does the same (Realme 10 Pro+, iPhone 15 Pro, Zenfone 10) or practically anything that satisfies people's taste the most, or something with the highest odds of doing so.

In my opinion, any flagship phone today should be able to produce an "appealing" photo without requiring a learning curve, which is why I consider Huawei to be more versatile than the Pixel. By comparison, Huawei gives you more flexibility to adjust the settings according to your preferences. Furthermore, if you compare Huawei's photos with Pixel's, you will notice that Huawei has a similar but more polished style of approach, which may appeal more to the GP rather than to the audience who may already have had a bias for the Pixel's look - Not a follow up argument, just wanted to clarify my own statement as well ~

The context of my previous opinion was: "If you only want this phone for the camera."

There's an "IF" and "only" applies to "[someone who] only want this phone for the camera."
My statement applies to a very specific type of consumer.

As to Pixel vs Huawei, it's not what I am talking about in my previous opinion post. I have said:
"skip the learning curve," which means that if the specific type of consumer doesn't want to learn ISO, shutter speed, white balance, focal lengths, and so on, and still wants to get appealing photos, go for a Pixel phone as the 6a had won multiple blind tests[1] in the past because of Google's unique colors—the software will do the rest and suggest improvements. Not to mention Night sight for videos and Magic Editor for your photos.

My opinion was subjective. It doesn't apply to 99.9% of consumers or end-users.

Another note is that it is revealed that Huawei is using the Sony IMX 989 1 inch sensor, probably on the ultrawide lens since it was hinted that Huawei would use an upgraded 1 inch sensor on the ultrawide lens, and the main lens would probably the OV50H. Another leak is that the Pro and Art version would probably get a 1.5K deep micro quad curve screen, which I really hope it would not turn out to be Apple's Super Retina Oled which is only an Oled with a fancy name. Plus the mate 70 series would probably get the 2k curve screen since Huawei is hinted to test that on mid 2024. Finally, Huawei is said to use a glass- plastic hybrid lens and two speakers on the earpiece
