Smartphones regardless of brand already look the same - they have the same software, the same hideous notches, the same lack of headphone jacks and removable batteries, they all spy on you, they have the same looking settings menus and flat icon designs and they all run the same boring apps with near identical app stores. Apple has managed to cling onto some unique features that give their phones a slight difference to the rest of the market... but for the consumer, the market's become really boring - and when all smartphones look and feel the same, then competition dies with it.
The EU should be forcing Google, Apple and major European carriers to be different. There should be MORE iMessage like services.

Funny how corporations are starting to use regulations as a weapon against each other now. Nothing good will come out of overregulation that has been happening for several years. Sadly people don't realize this stuff unless their own life is bound by countless regulations, but then it's too late, because rolling out laws is super easy unlike cancelling them.

Google's bottom line isn't depending on whether people use iMessage. It depends on whether people who can't/don't use iMessage are convinced to buy an iPhone because of the bubble color.

RCS also has nothing to do with Google besides the fact that they are a proponent. It's not Google's tech and it's not Google's servers.

What are you talking about, my boy? Instant messaging apps have their own protocols and do not support RCS. You can only send Signal messages on other devices that have Signal installed, regardless of Android or iOS. The same goes with any other instant messaging app like WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.
This guy is suggesting that every instant messaging app should also adopt the RCS protocol, and everything should go to the Google server. How is that supposed to break the monopoly and duopoly, as you claimed? Wow, this guy is a genius! 👏

Suschito, 09 Nov 2023tbh we don’t really need imessage, us Europeans only use either Whatsapp, Telegram or Viber… 💀"Viber" xD Who on earth has touched Viber since 2011? Everyone is using WhatsApp, and people are resistant to moving to alternatives, because it just works for them. There was a brief period of migration to other platforms like Telegram when the WhatsApp privacy scare happened at the start of 2021, but people abandoned those alternatives and recommended on WhatsApp soon enough.
I am hopeful that something like Matrix will supersede all of this, but I don't see that happening at scale for *at least* another 5 years.

This is only happening because people are offended by the green bubble-blue bubble thing, i don't see what the issue is for apple users to have a messaging feature exclusive to their products, BlackBerry had BBM for YEARS before they made it available for other devices and it was quite popular during the time when it was only for BlackBerry devices. Google/Android want iMessage on their devices so bad.
