Why doesn't Facebook have any competitors? Single company monopolies are a disaster. There's no progress, just misery for consumers. That's not capitalism, it's more like communism, but without a responsible government running the show.

I live in Switzerland and we don't like Europe and these decisions. Every country must be sovereign. However, I only have Facebook, Messenger (and SMS RCS) Facebook is the most complete network With video, text to follow distant friends, business, associations, hobbies, clubs etc. I wouldn't pay like for Youtube but I hope not for even more advertising than now. Another, more intelligent decision has been taken for next spring: Obligation that messaging systems can be compatible with each other (for example writing on WhatsApp to a friend on Messenger or on Messenger to a friend on Signal) However, this will perhaps be a reduced service.

Just use a windows laptop with chrome and adblock plus. Ads will die for free.

Genuinely i want to use signal only but because my friends & my office works are mostly on whatsapp,so I have to use it too.
If Whatsapp beings subscription fee then more people will be encouraged to use alternatives.
It all seems good enough for me.

Cheaper than hiring a webdev and almost everyone is in there. Last two are for the younger generations.

Without strict rules & regulations,such corporates are gonna flourish with their sheer greed.
With such weak regulations,these greedy corporates were inevitable. Someone just have to find a loop-hole in system or get politicians to support their agenda. Our leaders are too busy in capitalising their power & get more votes.
Facebook,Apple,Google,X,Samsung,Microsoft etc. These are the inevitable outcome of such greed & regulatory incompetence.
But anyway someone who's planning on spending their hard earned money for these stupid/evil social media,should reconsider his priorities in life.
Spending your money on such platform,that sold every bit of your data only for Ad revenue,doesn't seem logical.
But in the end its your money folks,we've seen people spending on much more stupid things,then by those standards this one seems fine.
