If you really want that headphone jack, stick with it until it spoils (and you'd never get a phone again). Otherwise, just get a new phone, ignoring the headphone jack. There are plenty of workarounds like dongles.

Anonymous, 18 Oct 2023Stay in some devices? Maybe. But come back? Never.Tell that to Sony who put back the headphone jack after two years of removing it in the 2020 Xperia 1 Mk2. They could've easily continued selling the phones without the headphone jack and keep up with the trend, but do they bother? No, absolutely not.

The decline might be due to the fact that smartphone prices are really going up and up yearly for the big brands: Samsung, Apple and even Xiaomi. Midrange and low-end markets are gaining traction due to having good enough chipsets for daily use and casual gaming as well okay camera.

Meanwhile, I enjoy keeping my old RogPhone 3 and my current RedMagic 8Pro as these are futureproof phones good for several years with headphone jack too and big batteries. But not so good cameras though lol.

It's crazy to think that some people still don't get the idea of having some flexibility. Removing something isn't going to solve the problem, it only make things worse.

Ottonis, 18 Oct 2023"Headphone jack won't return. Move on and use tws earbuds. " There will be a... moreCouldn't have been more accurate. The lack of a headphone jack on modern smartphones really proves to be troublesome when using an external mic for voice recording or vlogging. Even dongles don't work as intuitive as the headphone jack. That's why I only look at Sony as my next phone since they still keep that relevant hardware feature.

P.S. I also love having a built-in DAC on smartphones (thanks to my LG V50 nonetheless), but that's another story for another day.

Anonymous, 17 Oct 2023so why didn't xiaomi lie?Xiaomi seems to be not so part of government? Or Xiaomi/Oppo is now very much part of the whole state system in China. My take any number comming from these "companies" is questionable.

Probably all phone producers in China saw declines, but they present numbers on accordingly to whatever they wish.

If you can proof me otherwise i will stand corrected, but there us absolutely no transparancy in China, so how to do that.. (exept for the common people that need to be 100% without any secrets lol).

There will be a niche for the headphone jacket. A great quad-DAC inside the phone still delivers sound quality that is heads and shoulders above anything a puny DA-converter inside a bluetooth earplug is capable of doing.
Moreover, there is a ton of professional headphones for musicians that use the analog audio jack.

So, just like vinyl has demonstrated an incredible comeback and has got a decent market niche, the 3.5mm audio jack will stay in certain devices that will serve the part of the audiophile market.

The smartphone market has become fairly saturated: currently, there are more than 4 billion (!) smartphone devices in use worldwide.
Moreover, the curve of technological advancements has pretty much flattened in the recent few years: Except for the most demanding 3D-games, there is barely anything a 3-4 year old smartphone wouldn't be able to accomplish nowadays. Even entry level smartphones are good enough for watching/streaming video and music, chatting over WhatsApp oder sending emails.
All in all, there is less and less necessity to purchase a new phone. The primary reason that keeps people byuing new phones is cracked screens that would cost an arm and a leg to repair (esp. in iPhones), old batteries that can only difficultly be replaced by the user or at relatively high cost (also: iphones).

Gsmarena, kindly share those details like how many units they are selling.
Cause that gives more accurate data.
These percentage up and down metrics does not give exact data of how many units are getting sold or still are in inventory, things like that.
I hope i clarified what i wanted to say and if possible kindly try to provide such details.
Even i purchased my current phone in 2020's october and using it since then without any problem that impacts me.
