pixel 8 pro had 200 euros price increase compared to 7 pro. It makes zero sense. s23 ultra is only 60 euros more expensive than pixel 8 pro with the same storage (256gb).

7 pro costed ne 750 EUR from German amazon the ne year ago. Now they are selling 8pro for 1150 EUR. Are they insane or what? Nobody is going to buy that!

I'm not paying that much for such an average phone. It's a very nice phone but as far as hardware goes it's nothing spectacular. I ended up buying a pixel 7 new in box the day the 8 & 8 pro was released for only $425 (including taxes and shipping).
I couldn't justify spending $300 more for the base model pixel 8 even if it can do some interesting things with pics and videos on the software side. Comparing the specs to the 7... It just wasn't worth what they were asking imo.

Great enough. Maybe is even better than pixel series at least it does not come with crawling sluggish sloth like Google Tensor fabricated by Samsung.

Every company that does most of it's business in the west where mindshare is more important than capability will lose if they have the same prices. It's a waste of time. Huawei and Xiaomi are exceptions since most of their business is not done in the west. Charging the same as Apple and Samsung (even if the product is better) is the HTC / LG / Sony playbook. None of these manufacturers are relevant anymore. The only way to compete with Apple and Samsung is to offer more for less. At $700 the Pixel 8 is still competitive in the USA, but in Europe the prices are much closer. I expect Google to lose a lot of the steam they have been building up in Europe if they don't offer deep price cuts soon.

I would definitely part ways with my 5a since I don't like big phones. $700 is already significantly above my target price for phones with compromises, but the only real compromises for me on the Pixel 8 are the physical design (ugly visor and rounded corners) and a trash UD fingerprint sensor. Side mounted always on capacitive sensor (or read mounted) just works way better. UD fingerprint may seem cool, but why bother if they perform worse.

I think the USA price is fine since it only went up $100 from $600 to $700. The EU price is F'ed. It went up €150 and it was already priced higher at €650 winding up €800. This is a bit DOA for price conscious consumers IMO. Price creep will significantly harm all manufacturers other than Apple or Samsung. €650 is currently almost $700 already. EU prices include tax, but it's clearly more than the USA price + tax. €800 is roughly $840 ATM.

I am Google Fanboy since nexus one. They changed the design and add new features every year.
Since Google switched to use Tensor CPU, things are getting worse. That CPU actually same as Exynos, which is abandoned by Samsung. Due to the contract, Google still need to use it until Tensor G5. So the issues on P6,P7 won't be fixed, but it will slightly better because of the upgrade of the Process nodes.
I am ok with the price increase, if they upgrade the corresponding hardware.
However, Google keeps using the older technologies and selling the phone with flagship price.

People rarely s... moreI switch brands all the time, maybe I should say if another way Google doesn't have the clout / brand reputation of apple or say Samsung to charge premium prices ..I think it says that obviously the 7 series have been really successful but Google just doesn't have that rep yet. Me personally would rather an android over an iPhone but 95% of my friends wouldn't

I bought the 8 Pro 256GB and it was £1059 which I thought was good value for what I got. It is a premium build with amazing cameras. The screen quality is first class and the performance is great in comparison to my 6 Pro that I upgraded from. It feels like an upgrade and I am completely happy with my purchase. It was still cheaper than the equivalent iPhone 15 Pro Max and more fun. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and iOS 17 is still a buggy mess. Android 14 feels more polished and just flies on the 8 Pro. The AI features are unbeatable and the camera quality is phenomenal. This is just my opinion, but I do not feel ripped off. I got a free Watch 2 with my phone as well for extra value.
