It is not like SoC.
You can use same for 20 years with zero issues.
Those 13mp 1/3" still very used are all old, from 2013/14

100 dollars more for G3 and a thermometer? See Google threw in the thermometer to just bump up their revenue. The G3 should be no more than 30-40 dollars more. The screen cost wouldn't be that much more now that 120hz screens are available. Horrendous price bump in the current climate.
not really shocking., 25 Sep 2023It is the same 5X from P7 Pro, Isocell GM5 1/2.55" sensor with just different aperture, g... moreNot "just" different aperture. That's a huge deal because a too small effective lens diameter reduces the sharpness of distant objects due to diffraction. The new effective diameter is approximately 20% larger, theoretically this lets you zoom 1.2x as much as previously, for example 12x instead of 10x. That's the same difference as comparing a 10cm telescope with a 12cm telescope. Furthermore, it also leads to approximately 45% more light from distant objects per exposure time, so distant objects will look better when the light conditions are not perfect.
The only disadvantage is the slightly wider field of view: 112mm instead of 116.5mm previously, but I expect that the 20% larger effective diameter will still make distant objects look sharper than previously despite the slightly smaller focal length. Though, when the lens is sharper, the amount of Quad Bayer artifacts could increase (the periscope of the 7 Pro has no Quad Bayer artifacts at 10x because the lens is soft due to diffraction, the sensor basically outresolves the lens).
hUisd, 25 Sep 20239to5google said that's probably outdated, the gn1 isn't supported anymore.Does not make sense, "gn1 isn't supported anymore" what does it even mean.
Samsung just stopping production of GN1. That does not mean that they don't have a stock for all Pixel 8 devices.
Also, it is clearly stated that is is 1.31" sensor with wide f/1.6 aperture, and larger GN2 with such a wide aperture does not make sense. I wish it was wrong for sure. GN2 would make a huge difference, newer, larger, better AF, support for staggered HDR, 4K120fps and so on.
BongaD, 25 Sep 2023That will only be possible if SOC is robust enough, SD 8+ Gen 1 performance level or higher I ... moreNot really. Most devices that are extremely old are still capable of running modern android. My Galaxy S7 was flashed with pixel experience with android 13, and it ran extremely well. Of course, it was a little sluggish in modern day apps ( to be expected) but it wasn't bad at all. Now if you flashed it with something like One UI, it probably wouldn't perform well since its full of bloatware, but for pixel experience or stock android, it runs well since it doesn't have much background activity
Anonymous, 25 Sep 2023The camera specs have been leaked on a different website and they seem to be quite good!
A ... moreAnd by the way, GN1 + f/1.68 lens is comparable to GN2 with f/1.96 lens (the Xiaomi 11 Ultra had GN2 + f/1.95 lens). The only disadvantage would be maybe mainly the autofocus (and possibly worse depth map) and a worse base Iso performance at 2x.
When I tested multiple Pixel 7 Pro units, I noticed that dark frames from the main camera could look quite strange, for example a corner with a green tint. Some Pixel 7 Pro units suffered from this issue more than others, the issue was even in the HDR+ raw file. I came to the conclusion that the issue was mainly Google's image processing. Dark frame raw files from a third party app didn't show a green tint in the corner, there was just an inhomogenity (something like fixed pattern noise) of the sensor, which Google's algorithms apparently didn't handle well at all, which led to the green tint. So the same thing could theoretically happen with the GN2.
What's really exciting is that they increased the effective lens diameter of the periscope camera. It should be now approximately 6.5mm, one of the largest on the market, though the field of view is slightly wider: 112mm instead of 116.5mm, but due to the 20% larger effective diameter, distant objects may still look better than previously and this would be really great as the 7 Pro already outperforms the S23 Ultra at 360mm (approximately 15x), when Google's short Night Sight mode is used (I tested this multiple times in a store).

Apple are able to do this because of peak performance. Kept my original SE until last year and was very functional. Was really good for the phone of its age.
I am buzzin' for the Pixel 8 Pro. Didn't have the Pixel 7 Pro for long. The thermal issues and everything that came with that was just not bearable for me. Should I have held on a bit longer in hope for an update. Waiting for the pixel launch and reviews to make my next upgrade decision. Hopefully the screen will be improved as well. 7 pro had an okay panel not exciting enough.
Anonymous, 25 Sep 2023Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro to get 7 Years of update (5 OS Update)they are set to get 7 years all across the board. 7 years OS, 7 years security, and 7 years of feature drops. 7 years of OS means 7 years of major OS upgrades.
The most surprising specs (see other website) are really the new periscope camera, which will have a 20% larger effective lens diameter and the manual controls. It's also nice to see the option for high resolution images.
Worst customer service and the devise is very expensive. I don't recommend Pixels
