Talking of my main camera of 12 Megapixels (4032x3024):-
A 5.68MB photo became 1.43MB. (3.97 times less)
A 6.89MB photo became 1.87MB. (3.68 times less)
A little approximation is used. All photos were sent as HD, and they all went at full resolution.

WhatsApp update - Best we can do is HD.
This should have been a standard, default setting, if i'm on saving mode plan, i'll definetly switch to low quality, even then, I would rather NOT send anything and just wait till I'll eventually send some HD pictures.

potato4k, 18 Aug 2023Why not just have the option to send “actual size” like WeChat? Yeah, like every user is already storing files on their own cloud (google drive). So there's no excuse for whatsapp to say about space saving, if a user decides to fill their storage faster, or can buy more storage, what's your problem, meta?

Andy, 20 Aug 2023Why WhatsApp not sending me velify code.....?Could be a lot of reasons:-
country code wrong?
phone number not accepting incoming sms/calls?
you tried to verify more than 3 times in 24 hours, which means you'll have to wait 1 hour, before another code, read the instructions carefully on whatsapp if this happens.
maybe you didn't give permission to whatsapp to read sms, which means you have to enter code manually,
As you gave very limited info, these suggestions might help.

Oh, I thought this was implemented a month ago?
I saw it on my whatsapp about 2 weeks ago and thought "Finally!".
For years, If I want to send by full resolution with no further compression to people,
I usually attach the pics as document.

It sends upto 13 MP maximum (from phone), and 5 Megapixels (from Whatsapp PC) in HD mode.
My 12 MP pic is going at 4032x3024, full res as it is.
But my 32MP selfie is downscaled to 4160x3120... so 13 Megapixels is the upper limit.
Strangely, RAW pics from mobile (.dng) go with 4016x3008.
And pics from computer go with 2560x1920, around 5 megapixels.

I suppose this is no problem.
The feature is already applied on whatsapp, and we can do a test on this. All we need to do is to have some specially prepared 8-10 images through whatsapp and download and analyse the result using photoshop or even the open source GIMPShop.
While saving the image, you see compression statistics in terms of a value from 0-100. Often 90 means ok ok quality, and DSLR's choose 97.
Even I can do this test myself.

It doesn't work on iphone if you pick photo directly from gallery, then there is no HD button. If photo is added from Whatsapp on a plus sign it exists.

i've got the update, when you press the HD button it confirms the size, the usual standard is 1600 x 1200, while the HD option is 4000 x 3000, so quite the jump in size (both in pixel and megabytes lol)

You can already send photos & videos in full quality by sending them as documents. Size for videos can be upto 2GB.
But yes, it's good that they are finally upgrading their default image & video sharing options. Should've done it years ago though.
